PGA Tour: RBC Heritage Betting Tips
Harbour Town Golf Links, Thursday 18th - Sunday 21st
Before You Bet golf followers had a decent outing at the Masters as we tipped the eventual winner Scottie Scheffler, albeit at the measly odds of $5.00 to win the tournament. We also had good results in our top finish tips as Xander Schauffele (T8), Patrick Reed (T12) and Corey Conners (T38) all played well.
We’ll look to carry on the solid form as we head about 150 miles East of Augusta to Harbour Town, South Carolina for the annual RBC Heritage.
The Field
An elevated event means a massive $20million purse for the RBC Heritage, which in turn means that the vast majority of the top players in the world will be backing it up just a few days after the festivities wrapped up in Augusta.
The field will be headlined by the inclusion of the No.1 player in the world and Masters Champion Scottie Scheffler. There has been six tournaments with elevated prize-pools of $20million plus so far this season, Scheffler has won the last three in a row and will start as red hot favourite to pick up a fourth this weekend.
Other top names in the field this week include Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg, Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood, Jordan Spieth, Max Homa and the defending champion of the RBC, Matt Fitzpatrick.
The Course
Harbour Town Golf Links, nestled on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, has been the esteemed host of the RBC Heritage since its inception in 1969. In that inaugural tournament, the legendary Arnold Palmer emerged victorious.
While Harbour Town may lack the sprawling distances seen on the Tour, it compensates with cunning defenses, most notably its slick, diminutive greens. Unlike the PGA Tour’s average green size of over 6,500 square feet, Harbour Town’s greens measure a modest 3,600 feet. Here, precision reigns supreme, and players skilled in scrambling find their footing—just as Jordan Spieth did in his triumphant comeback win a few years ago.
Short-hitters off the tee thrive at Harbour Town, making it a battleground unlike any other on the PGA Tour. Notable names like Cink, Kuchar, Simpson, McDowell, and Furyk have all claimed victory here within the past decade.
Traditionally, the RBC Heritage hasn’t drawn the spotlight, often falling in the shadow of The Masters. However, since it’s designation as an elevated event, all the stars have come out to play at Harbour Town.
Betting Tips
Making the conscious decision to stay away from Scottie Scheffler this week. There could be a bit of a green jacket hangover there plus he was every chance to leave the Masters for the birth of his first child so I think that could be looming over his head again here.
Patrick Cantlay ($17)
Cantlay is my top pick here after a solid week at the Masters where he finished T22. The World No.8 has been solid this season without setting the world alight, making 8/8 cuts and raking up four top 25 finishes. The main reason I like him this week, however, is his form at Harbour Town. In six trips to the RBC, he has missed the cut just once and his other five finishes read 3rd, 7th, 3rd, 2nd and 3rd.
Shane Lowry ($36)
Looking a touch further down the list, like the odds of Shane Lowry here as he makes his annual stop at the RBC for the seventh time. In his last five trips, he has missed the cut just one time and has racked up three top 10 finishes in that span. Has also made the cut in his last six straight tournaments.
Webb Simpson ($176)
Bit of a dark, dark horse here considering he hasn’t played a lot of golf lately. Has played just six tournaments this year and missed the Masters, but he has a glittering record at Harbour Town, having played there 14 times for 12 made cuts and eight top 25 finishes including the win back in 2020.
