PGA Tour: Genesis Invitational Betting Tips
Riviera Golf Course, Thursday 15th - Sunday 18th February
Scottie Scheffler had the chance to win the WM Phoenix Open for the third straight season on the weekend and looked the goods halfway through the final round, holding a strong lead. A poor back nine, however, allowed Charlie Hoffman and Nick Taylor back into the mix, with the Canadian eventually getting the chocolates in a playoff.
The Field
The Field for the Genesis is without doubt the strongest we’ve seen on the PGA Tour this season. Being an elevated event with a $20m prize-pool, all the stars are out to play this week, including the biggest star of all, Tiger Woods. Tiger will be making his first start since playing the Hero World Challenge back in December and although he’s miles down in the betting markets, he will be the headline attraction at Riviera this week.
Just a few of the other big names teeing it up on Thursday include Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa and Patrick Cantlay. Past winners of the Genesis who will be looking to add another trophy to the case this week include Max Homa and Adam Scott, who won the event on two occasions 15 years apart in 2005 and 2020.
The Course
The Riviera Country Club, with a par of 71 and a length of 7,322 yards, presents a stark contrast in challenges compared to Pebble Beach last weekend. Designed by course architect George C. Thomas Jr. in 1926, this renowned club has hosted three major championships. The US Open took place here in 1948, while the PGA Championship occurred in 1983 and 1995, the latter being clinched by Australian golfer Steve Elkington.
Riviera is characterized by its lengthy layout and intricate fairways, making precision crucial. Navigating the fairways, especially targeting the right sections, will be pivotal for players looking to make strategic approaches to the pins. This weekend, emphasis will be on golfers adept with powerful drives, as we focus on those skilled with the big stick.
Betting Tips
Patrick Cantlay ($19/Top 10 $2.70)
Really like the look of Cantlay as one of the top dogs this week. He took the week off at Pebble Beach after finishing 11th at the Farmers Insurance. He has a fantastic record at Riviera, competing in the last six events, having never missed the cut while racking up finishes of 4th, 15th, 17th, 15th, 33rd and 3rd.
Adam Scott ($31/Top 20 $1.90)
Hard to look past the Australian when it comes to on course form at Riviera. He has played in the last eight Genesis events, having never missed the cut and finishing in the top 11 five times including the win in 2020. Is coming off a great T8 result at Pebble.
