2024 AFL Brownlow Round 24 Overview
It's going to be an exciting final round of the 2024 Brownlow Medal count. Nick Daicos, Lachie Neale, Errol Gulden, Tom Green and Zach Merrett are all likely to poll, which means it will be very interesting to see if Patrick Cripps can poll well in a losing effort against the Saints. He's polled well in losing matches in the past, so he might need a vote or two here to hold off the challengers!

2024 AFL Brownlow Votes - Round 24 Match Analysis
Melbourne 8.9.57 def by Collingwood 15.13.103
A strange start to the final round of the season with Collingwood getting a comfortable win after a final quarter delay for a lightning storm. Nick Daicos did everything he could to ensure he polled three votes in the final round with 40 disposals, 10 score involvements, 11 marks, 9 clearances and 2 goals. Brother Josh Daicos was also excellent with 40 disposals of his own with 10 marks, while Patrick Lipinski (30 disposals, 12 marks, 2 goals) saved his best for last. Christian Salem tried hard for the Dees with 26 disposals and 6 marks.
Nick Daicos - 3
Josh Daicos - 2
Patrick Lipinksi - 1
Hawthorn 26.14.170 def North Melbourne 7.4.46
The Hawks romped past the Roos to the tune of 124 points to secure themselves an unlikely finals berth after starting the season 0-5. The Hawks had winners everywhere with Jai Newcombe (35 disposals, 10 clearances, 1 goal), Massimo D’Ambrosio (31 disposals, 2 goals), James Sicily (24 disposals, 7 marks, 2 goals), Connor Macdonald (19 disposals, 7 tackles, 3 goals), Jack Ginnivan (23 disposals, 2 goals) and Dylan Moore (4 goals, 12 disposals, 8 tackles) among their best. Jye Simpkin stood tall for the Roos with 25 disposals, 9 tackles and 3 goals.
Jai Newcombe - 3
Massimo D’Ambrosio - 2
James Sicily - 1
Geelong 26.12.168 def West Coast 11.9.75
The Cats were in front by 100 points at half time and looking for a huge percentage booster, but the Eagles did enough to win the second half. An easy three votes for Jeremy Cameron who bagged 9 goals from 14 disposals and 9 marks in a dominant forward display. Max Holmes (26 disposals, 8 marks, 1 goal), Patrick Dangerfield (25 disposals, 9 marks, 7 clearances, 1 goal), Rhys Stanley (16 disposals, 33 hitouts, 2 goals) and Oli Henry (13 disposals, 8 marks, 4 goals) were all impressive.
Jeremy Cameron - 3
Max Holmes - 2
Patrick Dangerfield - 1
Richmond 10.6.66 def by Gold Coast 14.10.94
The Suns ended their season with a rare away win as the Tigers locked up the wooden spoon. Sam Flanders (29 disposals, 6 tackles, 6 clearances, 2 goals), Noah Anderson (30 disposals, 9 marks, 1 goal) and Matt Rowell (29 disposals, 9 tackles, 8 clearances) were huge in the middle, well fed by Jarrod Witts (19 disposals, 46 hitouts, 1 goal) in the ruck. Daniel Rioli (30 disposals, 2 goals) and Tim Taranto (30 disposals, 8 marks, 14 tackles) were best for Richmond.
Sam Flanders - 3
Matt Rowell - 1
Noah Anderson - 1
Daniel Rioli - 1
Brisbane 11.21.87 def Essendon 10.7.67
An inaccurate Lions held off a fast-finishing Bombers team to lock up a home elimination final in two weeks. Lachie Neale will once again give the Brownlow Medal a shake with more votes likely for his 40 disposals, 7 marks, 7 clearances and 1 goal. Hugh McLuggage (29 disposals, 6 marks), Will Ashcroft (30 disposals, 15 marks) and Josh Dunkley (28 disposals, 8 tackles, 9 clearances) were also busy. Zach Merrett (37 disposals, 8 marks, 1 goal) capped off a fine season, while Kyle Langford (25 disposals, 10 marks, 3 goals) and Nic Martin (28 disposals, 11 marks, 1 goal) were also good for the Dons.
Lachie Neale - 3
Zach Merrett - 2
Hugh McLuggage - 1
Sydney 18.13.121 def Adelaide 13.12.90
The Swans will enter the finals on top and in good form after accounting for the Crows. Errol Gulden (24 disposals, 8 clearances, 2 goals), Nick Blakey (32 disposals, 14 marks, 2 goals), Matt Roberts (31 disposals, 10 marks) and Luke Parker (19 disposals, 6 marks, 3 goals) were among their best. Jordan Dawson (25 disposals, 6 tackles, 1 goal) and Riley Thilthorpe (16 disposals, 8 marks, 3 goals) were best for the Crows.
Errol Gulden - 2.5
Nick Blakey - 2.5
Luke Parker - 1
Western Bulldogs 14.14.98 def GWS Giants 9.7.61
The Bulldogs travelled to MARS and did what they had to do to secure themselves the win and another finals berth. Ed Richards (29 disposals, 2 goals), Bailey Dale (27 disposals, 1 goal) and Tom Liberatore (24 disposals, 8 clearances, 1 goal) were important for the Dogs, while Marcus Bontempelli (22 disposals, 7 tackles, 11 clearances, 1 goal) was good but maybe hasn’t done enough to secure himself that elusive Brownlow Medal. Lachie Whitfield (42 disposals, 9 marks) and Tom Green (37 disposals, 7 clearances, 1 goal) were huge for the Giants.
Ed Richards - 3
Lachie Whitfield - 1.5
Tom Green - 1.5
Carlton 11.8.74 def by St Kilda 11.10.76
The Blues were brave but it was a heartbreaking loss to the Saints with Jack Higgins snapping a goal with 12 seconds remaining to steal the win. Fortunately for the Blues, they still fell into the finals after Freo lost the later game of the day. Jack Sinclair (28 disposals, 8 marks), Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (25 disposals, 6 marks) and Mattaes Phillipou (20 disposals, 7 marks, 9 tackles, 1 goal) were best for the Saints. However Patrick Cripps does have a habit of picking up votes in losing efforts and he’ll probably do that again for his 30 disposals, 9 tackles and 8 clearances. Nic Newman (35 disposals, 16 marks), George Hewett (32 disposals, 6 marks, 6 tackles, 1 goal) and Sam Walsh (32 disposals, 8 tackles, 9 clearances) were all very good for the Blues.
Patrick Cripps - 2
Nic Newman - 2
Jack Sinclair - 1
Sam Walsh - 1
Fremantle 9.13.67 def by Port Adelaide 13.9.87
The Dockers had the chance to play finals on their own boot but couldn’t get the job done. Jason Horne-Francis (20 disposals, 2 goals), Ollie Wines (31 disposals, 6 clearances) and Zak Butters (28 disposals, 6 clearances) were good in the middle while Jordan Sweet (13 disposals, 7 tackles, 39 hitouts, 6 clearances) won the ruck battle. Andrew Brayshaw (33 disposals, 7 marks, 7 tackles) was a standout for Freo.
Ollie Wines - 2.5
Jason Horne-Francis - 2.5
Andrew Brayshaw - 1
For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow vote predictor system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can then form a 'range' for each player (i.e. a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.
