2024 AFL Brownlow Medal Round 19 Votes

July 23rd 2024, 2:56pm, By: Brownlow Bandit

The Lions knocked off the Swans in a thriller in Round 19 in what might be a preview of the 2024 Grand Final. The Dogs are also starting to bark as they beat the Cats on their home turf. They aren't even in the top 8 yet, but plenty think the Dogs are still a premiership contender this season!

As usual, we’ll share our thoughts from every match of the AFL season, along with our Brownlow vote predictions and projections using our own system which has a proven profitable history over many years. For full details on how it works, see the section at the bottom of the page. We hope you'll use our free Brownlow tips to help you find value during the season and built a green book before the big night.

For links to every round of the season and full count, head to our 2024 Brownlow Medal Leaderboard page and check out the latest Brownlow Odds.

2024 AFL Brownlow Round 19 Overview

Former Brownlow Medallist Patrick Cripps might have one hand on the 2024 Brownlow Medal if our current Brownlow predictions and leaderboard are close to correct. Cripps continues to perform at an elite level and is picking up votes win or loss, which makes him hard to stop! He might not get the 3 votes in Round 19, but he should get something while not many of the other contenders polled strongly in Round 19. Tom Green from the Giants might be the one coming into contention, while Caleb Serong, Errol Gulden, Connor Rozee, Adam Treloar and Andrew Brayshaw are the others in our current top 20 who polled in Round 19. The likes of Nick Daicos, Lachie Neale, Marcus Bontempelli and Isaac Heeney are unlikely to poll in Round 19.

The season started with "Who can catch Heeney?" now it's a case of "Who can catch Cripps?"

Essendon 17.11.113 def by Adelaide 17.13.115

A fantastic game to start the round with 34 goals scored as the Crows got their nose in front in an epic game full of ebbs and flows. Darcy Fogarty (17 disposals, 8 marks, 4 goals) was a big target while Rory Laird (29 disposals, 7 tackles, 7 clearances) didn’t stop running. Sam Durham (27 disposals, 7 clearances, 1 goal) was best for Essendon, with Kyle Langford (22 disposals, 12 marks, 2 goals) and Zach Merrett (30 disposals, 8 clearances, 1 goal) also very good.

Jack Steele (31 disposals, 9 marks, 1 goal), Jack Sinclair (31 disposals), Mason Wood (19 disposals, 9 marks, 3 goals) and Rowan Marshall (26 disposals, 23 hitouts, 10 clearances) were among their best. Tim Membrey - 3
Jack Steele - 1.5
Jack Sinclair - 1.5

Hawthorn 20.13.133 def Collingwood 9.13.67

The Hawks rocked Collingwood at a slippery MCG to leave the Pies’ premiership defence hanging by a thread. The Hawks had winners everywhere but Jack Ginnivan was a star against his old side with 31 disposals, 11 score involvements and 2 goals. Conor Nash (29 disposals, 8 tackles, 8 clearances), Massimo D’Ambrosio (26 disposals, 6 marks, 2 goals), James Sicily (30 disposals, 6 marks), Dylan Moore (27 disposals), Will Day (26 disposals, 8 tackles) and Connor Macdonald (4 goals, 14 disposals) were all excellent and it might be hard to separate them.

James Sicily - 1
Conor Nash - 1
Connor Macdonald - 1

Geelong 7.6.48 def by Western Bulldogs 13.17.95

The Dogs announced themselves as a premiership threat with a thumping of the Cats on their home deck. Adam Treloar (31 disposals, 6 marks, 8 tackles, 6 clearances, 3 goals) was immense, with Ed Richards (29 disposals, 6 tackles, 9 clearances, 2 goals) in good support. Rory Lobb (21 disposals, 9 marks) did a great job in defence stopping Jeremy Cameron, while Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (4 goals, 18 disposals) defied the wet conditions to hit the scoreboard. Tom Stewart (26 disposals, 8 marks, 7 clearances, 1 goal) was one of the few to stand tall for the Cats.

Adam Treloar - 3
Ed Richards - 2
Rory Lobb - 1

Port Adelaide 16.20.116 def Richmond 11.9.75

The Power did enough to shake off the Tigers to cling onto a spot in the top 8. Ollie Wines (32 disposals, 8 marks), Connor Rozee (24 disposals, 7 clearances, 2 goals) and Dan Houston (25 disposals) were busy while Charlie Dixon (4 goals, 12 disposals, 6 marks) was damaging up forward. Daniel Rioli (28 disposals, 2 goals) was a standout for the Tigers.

Ollie Wines - 3
Connor Rozee - 2
Daniel Rioli - 0.5
Charlie Dixon - 0.5

Brisbane 11.13.79 def Sydney 11.11.77

A thriller at the Gabba saw the Lions come out on top of the Swans in what might be a preview of the 2024 Grand Final. With Neale and Dunkley both well down, it was Hugh McLuggage (26 disposals, 8 marks, 3 goals) and Cam Rayner (20 disposals, 7 tackles, 6 clearances, 2 goals) who lifted for the Lions, while Dayne Zorko (29 disposals, 12 marks) and Harris Andrews (14 disposals, 8 marks) were important down back. Errol Gulden (27 disposals, 7 marks, 1 goal) was best for the Swans.

Hugh McLuggage - 3
Cam Rayner - 2
Errol Gulden - 1

Fremantle 17.14.116 def Melbourne 10.6.66

A dominant win for the Dockers that leaves the Demons on the ropes in season 2024. They were smashed at the contest with Andrew Brayshaw (41 disposals), Caleb Serong (36 disposals, 7 clearances, 1 goal) and Hayden Young (28 disposals, 8 clearances) well fed by the dominance of their ruckmen who had no Max Gawn to compete with. Josh Tracey (18 disposals, 12 marks, 3 goals) was a force up forward while Michael Walters (4 goals, 16 disposals) also cashed in.

Andrew Brayshaw - 3
Caleb Serong - 2
Josh Tracey - 1

Carlton 16.11.107 def North Melbourne 14.4.88

It wasn’t convincing but the Blues got the points against the improving Roos. Patrick Cripps (29 disposals, 7 tackles, 9 clearances) should be in the Brownlow votes once again, while Sam Walsh (25 disposals, 7 tackles) and George Hewett (22 disposals, 6 tackles, 8 clearances) were also good contributors. Charlie Curnow was strong up forward with 4 goals from 15 disposals and 9 marks. Harry Sheezel (35 disposals, 7 marks, 2 goals) was one of the best on ground in the losing effort, while Tristan Xerri (16 disposals, 10 tackles, 43 hitouts, 11 clearances) continues to be a bull in the ruck for the Roos.

Harry Sheezel - 3
Charlie Curnow - 1.5
Patrick Cripps - 1.5

For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow vote predictor system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can then form a 'range' for each player (i.e. a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.
