Rebecca Peterson vs Fiona Ferro
Tuesday May 30th, 7pm AEST
The early home crowd story has been the resurgence of Lucas Pouille, however there is another local favourite on a very similar path.
Fiona Ferro reached a career high ranking of 39 in 2021, before injury and form issues severely impacted her level. She is one of the form players at ITF level on the clay in the lead up to Roland Garros, and was strong in her three qualifying wins. With the crowd support here, and given the lead-in form, she is well placed to continue her strong run. At 26 years of age, I’m expecting a strong run back up the rankings.
Rebecca Peterson hasn’t played a lot of clay tennis lately, and her recent results have left a little to be desired. She doesn’t have a strong CV on the surface, and given Ferro’s recent resurgence, I’m struggling to justify the odds being weighted in favour of Peterson. Her best result on clay in recent years came at a home tournament, however with the crowd against her today, and Ferro’s more settled lead-up and strong qualifying form, I’ll be siding with Ferro at the moneyline.
