PGA Tour Canadian Open Betting Tips
Oakdale Golf & Country Club, Thursday 8th – Sunday 11th June
It was just an okay week for BYB PGA Tour followers as we hit on just one of our place bets with Adam Scott finishing in the top 10 at the Memorial Tournament. We’ll look to bounce back in Canada this week and the some momentum into the third major of the year next week.
The Field
With the U.S. Open coming up next week, the field for the Canadian Open is predictably a bit lighter as some of the top players in the world take the week off after a busy period which has included two elevated events and a major in the past five weeks.
Back-to-back defending champion of the event and No.3 ranked player in the word, Rory McIlroy, while the rest of the top players in the field has a very international field with Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Justin Rose, Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood at the top of the betting markets.
Hometown favourites who will come into the event with a big chance include Corey Connors, Adam Hadwin, Nick Taylor, McKenzie Hughes and Adam Svensson.
The Course
Oakdale Golf & Country Club
7,264 Yards, Par 72
The Oakdale Golf & Country Clun in Toronto will host the Canadian Open for the first time this season, the 37th different course to host the event in the 117-year history. The club is usually a 27 hole layout and holes from all around the course have been handpicked to make up the 18 hole composite championship course.
Oakdale Golf and Country Club is a picturesque course with a timeless design, featuring lush trees and undulating terrain. Its layout deviates from the norm with three Par 3's, three Par 5's, and twelve Par 4's. This unique setup places great emphasis on the players' scoring average for Par 4 holes during this week's competition.
Compared to professional Tour standards, the three Par 5's at Oakdale Golf and Country Club are relatively short, providing an opportunity for the majority of players to reach them in regulation. The Par 4's vary in length, spanning from 354 to 489 yards, with four holes measuring less than 400 yards.
Betting Tips
Corey Conners ($17/Top 10 $2.75)
The top ranked Canadian in the world comes in as the best hometown chance to win in the eyes of the bookmakers this weekend. He is one of the better ball strikers in the world, which always plays well on a course that will be unfamiliar to the vast majority of the field. Has been in solid form lately, racking up 19 tournaments for 12 cuts made and nine top 25 finishes.
David Lipsky ($91/Top 40 $2.15)
The veteran has been surging over the last few weeks, finishing T16 at Colonial before an impressive T12 at the Memorial on the weekend after leading post round three. Offers some good value for a top 40 finish this week, as he has done in seven starts so far this season.
Mark Hubbard ($111/Top 40 $2.25)
The World No.102 has been in some solid form lately. Has made his last five cuts in a row and had an impressive T9 finish at the Charles Schwab two weeks ago. Another one with good value for a top 40 finish this week, especially given the rarity of players in the field with experience at the course.
