PGA Championship Betting Tips
Oak Hill Country Club, Thursday 18th - Sunday 21st May
It was another solid week in PGA Tour betting tips for Before You Bet followers last week, as two of our three tips finished inside the top 20, both saluting for place bets at good odds. We’ll look to carry on the momentum as we head to Rochester, New York for the PGA Championship.
The FIeld
As you’d expect with a major championship, the field is absolutely jam-packed full of talent this week. The one notable absentee is of course, Tiger Woods, who is still recovering from ankle surgery he underwent last month.
Outside of Woods, all of the big names, including those signed on to LIV Golf, will be in attendance this week. The field is headlined by the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth.
Past winners of the PGA Championship who will be looking to add another Wanamaker Trophy to the case include Thomas, Phil Mickelson, Collin Morikawa, Koepka, Rory McIlroy and Australian Jason Day, who is just a week removed from a great win at the AT&T to complete his comeback.
The Course
7,394 Yards, Par 70
Oak Hill Country Club, located in upstate New York, was founded in 1901 and has been a regular stop on the U.S PGA circuit since all the way back in 1949. Since then, the course has hosted the U.S. Open three times and the PGA Championship three times, as well as holding other marquee events in the Ryder Cup, U.S. Amateur and Senior Open.
The last time a major championship was held at the venue was back in 2013, when Jason Dufner claimed his sole major title with a two stroke win over Jim Furyk in the PGA Championship. Dufner also shot the course record 63 during that win.
The East Course, which is the regular host of the major championships, has traditionally been kind to the longer hitters. At almost 7,400 yards as a Par 70, the likes of Rahm, McIlroy, Johnson and co. will have an inherent advantage heading into this week.
Betting Tips
Xander Scauffele ($20/Top 20 $1.86)
The No.5 player in the world has arguably been a super consistent performer in majors over the last 12 months. In his last four majors, Schauffele has finished no lower than T15, culminating in a strong T10 finish at the Masters last month. Pure ball striker and one of the best scramblers in the world, think this course sets up well for him.0
Max Homa ($55/Top 30 $2.05)
Homa was solid at the Wells Fargo a few weeks ago, recording an 8th place finish to bounce back from two missed cuts on the trot. Homa is at the very top of the top when it comes to ball striking combined with distance and accuracy off the tee. He is also in that conversation for best players to have never won a major, and those guys so often break through at the PGA Championship (Morikawa, Thomas, Day just to name a few).
Adam Scott ($71/Top 40 $2.00)
Our smokey this week is Australian Adam Scott. Is one of the few players to have suited up at Oak Hill in the PGA Championship back in 2013 and played well in that tournament, finishing T5. Has found a purple patch of form lately as well finishing 5th at the Wells Fargo a few weeks ago before recording T8 at the AT&T on the weekend.
