We are on the road to Roland Garros and the action is heating up. It’s the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome this week, and Ace is here to take a look at both of the men’s semi-finals on Saturday night. Check out his previews and best bets here.
ATP Rome Semi-Finals Preview & Betting Tips
Holger Rune vs Casper Rune
Grab some popcorn and get ready for some fireworks, as there is no love lost between these two on the tennis court. It’s rising star Holger Rune and last year’s Roland Garros runner-up Casper Ruud battling for a place in the Rome final.
Rune is quickly becoming one of the players capable of knocking off the big names at the top of the ATP rankings, and managed to beat Novak Djokovic again earlier this week. I am personally on Rune as an outright trading selection for the French Open, however I do feel as though he is a little bit short here against an experienced and established performer in Casper Ruud. For the wide array of positives surrounding the game of Rune, he can still become a little wayward and distracted at times in his matches, and force the issue a little too much. There is an above average likelihood of this occurring here, with Ruud holding a 4-0 head to head and given the spite in which their match at Roland Garros last year, I’m not sure I can justify Rune’s pricing here.
Ruud as an underdog appeals.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Daniil Medvedev
Another player who I have high expectations for heading into Roland Garros is Stefanos Tsitsipas. He gets Daniil Medvedev here, with the Russian putting together one of his best patches of clay court tennis for his career. However, the quality of opposition, and the form in which they are in at the time of playing, leads Medvedev coming into this match and needing to adjust to a significant step up in opposition quality.
Medvedev has looked relatively comfortable in the standard rallying in match-ups on the clay of late. He is an exceptional defender when able to find a rhythm with the tennis and style of play coming from the other end of the court. I think in this match-up on clay, Tsitsipas’ ability to utilise his slice, and come into the net as required, are going to be incredibly advantageous. He is building nicely and I like his chances not only this week in Rome, but also in making a deep run in Paris in a couple of weeks.
