Holger Rune vs Francisco Cerundolo
Monday June 5th, 8:30pm AEST
This shapes as a fascinating 4th round contest, and one that I think will be a little closer than the current odds and game handicap may suggest.
I have been quite high on Holger Rune for the majority of this year. We got the chocolates with Rune going further than Medvedev this tournament thanks to Medvedev's first round loss, and I do have Rune as an outright trading selection. However, on the tennis I have seen from him in Paris, where he has been largely untested, I am not entirely sure Rune warrants a handicap of -5.5 games in what is going to be a grinding affair against Francisco Cerundolo.
Cerundolo was exceptional in his 4 set win over Taylor Fritz, and has come through some stern tests recently. The conditions in the middle of the day will suit him a little more than Rune, who has shown some signs of struggling physically in longer matches over the last 12-18 months, including his loss to Rublev at the Australian Open. With some question marks, and Cerundolo's incredibly solid form, the +5.5 game handicap appeals in this one.
