ATP Barcelona – Giustino vs Shevchenko
It is hard to fault the level of tennis that Alexander Shevchenko is currently producing, as he has now broken into the world’s Top 100 for the first time. The Russian is 18-12 on the season, and that includes a Challenger title in Tenerife in January, reaching the Phoenix Challenger final on hardcourt in March, and claiming the Madrid Challenger title last week, beating Pedro Cachin 6-4 6-3 in the final whilst serving 41% of first serves into play. The consistency in his level, reaching the quarter finals at Challenger level on clay 7 times and climbing over 150 spots in the rankings, cannot be ignored.
He faces Lorenzo Giustino here in round 1, who made his way through qualifying after being on the brink of defeat in both rounds. His level over the last 6-12 months has not matched what we saw from him at his peak in the 6-12 months before COVID. I think his break point save percentage in the qualifying rounds, saving 22/30, leads his level to look a little better on paper than it actually is. I am comfortable betting into the -4 games for $1.99.

ATP Munich – O’Connell vs Humbert
Another price that has caught my eye tonight is Australian Christopher O’Connell to defeat Ugo Humbert. O’Connell is certainly the more consistent of the two players, and to be in a position to back him without having to give up a game handicap looks a solid proposition. It was another case of ‘so close, yet so far’ for Humbert last week, coming within a point of victory against Lorenzo Sonego in Monte Carlo. When you cast an eye over his medium to long term clay form, it leaves a lot to be desired. O’Connell has put together a very solid clay sting this side of Miami, and with superior hold/break stats, looks to be a solid prospect here at the moneyline.
