It’s Night 3 of The Championships, and it’s going to be a big day of tennis action. After a number of upsets in Round 1, will we see more of the same in round 2? Ace is back with another couple of his best bets, as he takes a look at two men’s matches tonight.
Wimbledon Night 3 Betting Tips
Jannik Sinner vs Mikael Ymer
Although Jannik Sinner is still very much learning how to produce his best level of tennis on the grass, this looks to be a far more favourable match-up for him today with Mikael Ymer standing across the net.
Whilst Sinner has had a mixture of form and injury concerns across the course of the 2022 season, it is comforting from a betting perspective to see Sinner make his way through his first round match with Stan Wawrinka unscathed, even if he didn’t produce his best tennis for parts of the match. He managed to win 77% of points behind his first serve, 60% on his second, and finished with a +9 winner to unforced error ratio in his 7-5 4-6 6-3 6-2 in 2:42. He gets Ymer here coming off a straight set win over the streaky Daniel Altmaier, with 46% of the points won by Ymer coming as a direct result of Altmaier unforced errors.
With Ymer lacking the offensive weapons on grass, Sinner should be able to dictate consistently. I’ll be taking Sinner here to win and cover the game handicap.

Ryan Peniston vs Steve Johnson
It’s been a very impressive 12 months for Ryan Peniston. Can he continue his good run by defeating Steve Johnson and progressing to the third round?
After losing in the first round of Wimbledon qualifying last year, Peniston found himself ranked 367th in the world. Since then, he has produced a 49-26 record, which has more recently included wins on grass against Casper Ruud, Francisco Cerundolo, Holger Rune and Henri Laaksonen, as well as losing to Filip Krajinovic in a tight 3-setter. It was an incredibly disciplined and high IQ performance against Laaksonen in Round 1, and playing with the same composure today will hold him in good stead.
Steve Johnson was a little fortunate to make it through the first round, thanks to an unfortunate injury to Grigor Dimitrov. The first set was near one-way traffic prior to the injury, with Dimitrov only dropping 4 points on serve for the set. It hasn’t been a successful year for Johnson, and this doesn’t appear to be the best match-up for Johnson on the surface.
I will take Peniston to cover the -2.5 game handicap for a unit.
