Wimbledon Night 2 Betting Tips
Alize Cornet vs Yulia Putintseva
Grass certainly isn’t the preferred surface of Yulia Putintseva, and this match-up shapes as an incredibly difficult one with Alize Cornet across the net.
Putintseva holds a 12-19 career record on grass, with only 7 of those coming against Top 100 players. For mine, she lacks the credentials and composure to maintain a successful level on the grass surface. Against an experienced opponent in Cornet, who has grown more confident on the surface across the course of her career and holds an 8-5 record on grass post-Covid, she is going to find the going tough.
I don’t generally have the week before a grand slam as being tournaments and form that I consider to be strong, however Cornet did impress me in Bad Homburg last week, with a strong finish against Angelique Kerber in the ¼ final before losing to Caroline Garcia 5-7 in a decider. She is hitting her spots incredibly accurately on serve on the grass and it is translating to being able to dictate consistently. With Putintseva lacking any major weapons to keep Cornet on the back foot, this is Alize’s match to lose.

Jack Sock vs Bernabe Zapata Miralles
It is the battle of the qualifiers here in round 1 as Sock and Zapata Miralles look to continue their respective good form. It’s unfortunate for both players that ranking points are not on offer this fortnight, with BZM ranked 90th and Sock 103rd.
Let’s start with the Spaniard. After a solid clay season, Miralles was fortunate to receive one of the more friendly Wimbledon qualifying draws in Bhambri, Hoang and Caruso, none of which had a mix of form and proficiency on the grass. He managed to get by Caruso in 4 sets in the final round, albeit with 47 winners and 65 unforced errors to his name. He lacks the consistent weapons to keep Sock from being able to attack here on the grass, and that may be his downfall overall.
Sock didn’t drop a set on the way through qualifying, backing up solid weeks in Nottingham (semi final) and Ilkey (final) before winning through last week. After struggling with form and injury for so long, he looks to have turned the corner of late, presenting as a tough out this fortnight.
For mine, the value here clearly lies with the experienced Sock at the -4 game handicap.
