Novak Djokovic vs Nick Kyrgios
Sunday 11pm AEST
It’s been an eventful fortnight on the green grass at Wimbledon, but just two men remain in the race to be crowned champion in 2022. Will it be Serbia’s Novak Djokovic who lifts his 21st Grand Slam trophy, or Australia’s Nick Kyrgios who tastes glory for the first time?
Novak Djokovic
Former world #1 and 20-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic was the odds-on favourite to win this tournament before it even started, and those odds have been justified with his performance to date. It certainly hasn’t been a straightforward route to the final for the champ, but he’s lifted his level when it’s been needed and that’s what you come to expect from him.
Djokovic’s toughest test so far came in the quarterfinal clash with the talented youngster in Jannik Sinner who pushed him to five sets, although the result was never really in doubt once he hit his straps after being down 2-0. His most recent battle was against crowd favourite Cam Norrie, whom he dispatched comfortably in four sets. Djokovic has shown the ability to prove impossible to hit through at times this fortnight and that was certainly on display in the semi-finals.

Nick Kyrgios
Love him or hate him, Nick Kyrgios has made it all the way through to the final at Wimbledon for the first time in his career. He burst onto the scene at this event as a fresh-faced 19-year-old a number of years ago when beating Rafael Nadal en route to the quarterfinals and has finally managed to better that result by making it to the final two.
Kyrgios has been the centre of controversy for the entire two weeks at Wimbledon, but that hasn’t stopped him playing some amazing tennis. Twice he’s had to fight in the deciding set in his road to the final, firstly in the opening round against qualifier Paul Jubb and most recently in the fourth round against the impressive Brandon Nakashima. Kyrgios was gifted a win in the semi-finals due to Nadal pulling out with injury, but he was favourite to win that match anyway and is deserving of his place in the final.

Prediction
Novak Djokovic has looked impossible to defeat at times during this tournament despite dropping the first set on numerous occasions. Interestingly, he’s yet to win a single set against the Aussie in their two meetings to date, although both came way back in 2017 and were not at Grand Slam events.
In my opinion, Djokovic is the deserving short-priced favourite to win the title on Sunday night, but it won’t be a straightforward victory. Nick’s serve and ability to hit his spots in big moments is likely to see him win a set or even two, which should see the total games sail over the current line of 39.5.
