Collins vs Minnen
I am heading back to Linz again today, with one play in particular catching my eye as Greetje Minnen takes the court against Danielle Collins.
Much like Rebecca Peterson yesterday, Collins is another player who is certainly finishing the season better than she started the year. Danielle Collins has been one of the form players on tour since the end of Wimbledon. Since late July, Collins has been defeated by Jessica Pegula (backing up from a title the week before and a 3 set match against Halep), Shelby Rogers (retired injured), Aryna Sabalenka, Ons Jabeur and Marketa Vondrousova. In that time she has racked up 21 wins, and looked solid in her BJK Cup hitouts last week as well, dominating Sorribes Tormo and defeating Pavlyuchenkova as well. Her aggressive game style should hold her in good stead here, with the majority of this match likely to be on the racquet of the American.
I think the win of Minnen in round 1 might actually be masking some form issues for the Belgian. I feel as though she may be a little disappointed with her performances of late, struggling to find some consistency week to week. The straight set win over Oceane Dodin last night looks great on paper, however Dodin retired from an ITF level final just over 24 hours earlier in France, cramping after one set. She struggled against a rusty Daria Gavrilova last week, and I have some concerns about her ability to dictate here in any capacity.
I am not a massive fan of the -4.5 game handicap, so instead I will look to Collins to win this one in straight sets for 1.5 units.
