Super Rugby Australia kicked off with two exciting finishes so we’ll be hoping for more in Round 2. The action begins on Friday night with the 0-1 Rebels taking on the 1-0 Reds. Meanwhile, all eyes will be on the Western Force as they return to Super Rugby when they meet the NSW Waratahs at the SCG on Saturday night.
Super Rugby Preview Round 2 Betting Tips
Melbourne Rebels vs QLD Reds
(Fri, Jul 3 7:05pm)
Friday night Super Rugby heads to Brookvale Oval as the Rebels look for their first win of the season. The Rebels kicked off the season with a close loss against the Brumbies in Canberra last week but will take confidence out of the second half. The Brumbies held a 24-6 lead at one stage but the Rebels found their groove in the second 40 minutes with a couple of tries. The margin was reduced to 4 points with 14 minutes remaining but the Rebels just couldn’t find the try-line in the end.
It was a perfect start to the new Super Rugby season for the QLD Reds after they outlasted the Waratahs, 32-26. Especially since the ‘Tahs have been a massive bogey side for the Queenslanders. The Reds really took advantage of the Waratahs mediocre defensive line, especially around the posts. So a 2-0 start is well on the line for the Reds here.
With the neutral venue in play (Brookvale Oval) and both sides played in close finishes last week, we feel like this will be a very close contest for the 80 minutes. So we’ll be predicting a 6 or fewer margin for this one.

NSW Waratahs vs Western Force
(Sat, Jul 4 7:15pm)
Saturday’s night Super Rugby action will be played at the SCG as the Waratahs host the Western Force. For the Waratahs, they started the season with a close loss (32-26) against the Reds at Suncorp Stadium. It was mainly a close game for the 80 minutes but the ‘Tahs just weren’t up to the task in defence. They leaked a couple of soft tries and were also very undisciplined by giving up 18 penalties. So they’ll look to clean up these areas of their game coming into Round 2.
The Force enjoyed the bye in Round 1 and they should be massively keen to get onto the park. Considering the Force were cut from Super Rugby a few years ago, they’re very much the unknown team of this Australian competition. But we feel like that makes them a hard team to play against.
There will obviously be a bit of rust for the Western Force but playing the Waratahs first up is a great chance to take advantage of the ‘Tahs defensive struggles. So we’ll be backing the Force to keep this game close for the 80 minutes and maybe spring what would be an emotional upset.
