2015 Super Rugby – Round 4 Preview and Betting Tips
Super Rugby continues this weekend with the fourth round of the competition. There are still four undefeated teams, none of them being from the Australian conference. The Hurricanes, Chiefs, Stormers and Cheetahs haven’t tasted defeat, however the Cheetahs have had the luxury of a bye in round 2. The winless Blues and Lions will face off against each other giving at least one team’s supporters a chance to celebrate their first victory of the season. Chiefs vs Highlanders (Friday 5.35pm AEDT)
The undefeated Chiefs will be looking to continue the form that saw them smash the Crusaders last week. They are having their third straight match at home and will want to make it 3/3 before heading on a tough road trip to South Africa to face the Stormers and Sharks. The Highlanders had an unconvincing win last week against the Reds and it will be tough for them to overcome the highflying Chiefs away from home.
TIP: Chiefs Halftime/Fulltime Double @ $1.53 with Ladbrokes
Brumbies vs Western Force (Friday 7.40pm AEDT)
The Brumbies return home after a road trip that saw them lose against the Chiefs in the dying seconds but edge out the Rebels in a close one. They are on top of the Australian conference and have been one of the elite sides so far this season. The Western Force have been disappointing since beating the defending champions the Waratahs in the opening round. Since then the Force have lost both of their games and last week were flogged by the Hurricanes on home soil. Despite David Pocock still being on the sidelines with an ankle injury, the Brumbies are packed with International players and will be too good for the travelling Force.
TIP: Western Force +13.5 @ $1.90 with Sportsbet
Blues vs Lions (Saturday 5.35pm AEDT)
The battle of the losers, a bit harsh but neither side has been able to secure a victory this year. Both sides efforts last week suggest this match will be better than expected, the Blues lost their lead to a last minute penalty goal, before missing a field goal after the final siren had sounded. The Lions were also leading for the majority of their match, they knocked back two opportunities late in the game that would have earned them a draw against the Stormers. Instead they opted for an attempt at a try which would have won them the match. This one should be a tough contest with both teams looking to get the monkey off the back, the Blues have the better record against the Blues and I expect them to improve on this.
TIP: Lions +11.5 @ 1.90 with Sportsbet
Reds vs Waratahs (Saturday 7.40pm AEDT)
The match of the round with Queensland taking on state rivals New South Wales. In this match up, surprisingly the Reds have the upper hand winning 13 and losing 9. The Reds haven’t had the most ideal starts to the season, they were embarrassed by the Brumbies and the Cocaine scandal surrounding Karmicahael Hunt has rocked the club. They welcome back James Horwill and Ben Tapuai and the Waratahs have named Wycliff Palu in the starting XV but have ruled out Wallaby and Mr Consistent Adam Ashley-Cooper. This match could go turn ugly for the Reds with the Waratahs coming off an early bye and keen to improve on their start to the season.
TIP: Waratahs winning margin 11-20 @ $3.5 with Ladbrokes
Cheetahs vs Bulls (Sunday 2.05am AEDT)
The Cheetahs have been the surprise packet so far this season, they defeated the Sharks on the opening weekend of the competition and backed it up by beating the Blues last weekend. They have continued their running rugby style and it has paid dividends as they have found the try line 7 times in two games. The bulls finally managed a hard fought victory last week and if they want to make the finals this season they will need to win this match to stop the Cheetahs early surge. I expect this match to be a high scoring contest and if the Cheetahs can limit the penalty goal attempts made by the Bulls they have a real chance.
TIP: Bulls -1.5 @ $2.00 with Palmerbet
Stormers vs Sharks (Sunday 4.10 AEDT)
Another match that could have early implications on the finals, a loss for the Sharks will have them start the season 1-3 and the Stormers will improve to 4-0 and cement their position on top of the South African conference. The Stormers had a great escape last week and will need to start better if they are going to hold off the Sharks who were always fighting in their loss to the Bulls. The Stormers are a quality and experienced side and they wouldn’t be happy with their performance against the Lions, they will improve on that this week and remove the flaws.
TIP: Stormers 1-12 @ $2.68 with Palmerbet
