2024 AFL Round 15 Preview & Betting Tips
Port Adelaide vs Brisbane
Saturday 1:45pm AEST, June 22nd, Adelaide Oval
Experiencing defeat on either side of their Round 13 bye, Port Adelaide have now suffered consecutive losses for the first time in 2024. They were sitting rather pretty in third place just three weeks ago, but now find themselves potentially one loss away from slipping outside the top eight, such is the tightness of the competition this season.
Coach Ken Hinkley described his team as “lethargic” in their recent loss against the Giants. They were fast starters at ENGIE Stadium when opening up a 15-point lead at the first break, but could kick only three goals in the remaining three quarters and went down by 22 points (51-73).
Hinkley and his coaching staff swung the axe at selection this week, making five changes with only one of those being forced. Travis Boak was initially named but has since been left out of the side due to sickness, while Ivan Soldo headlines the omissions. Jordan Sweet will get his chance again as the solo ruck, and mid-season draftee Logan Evans has earned his debut.
Breathing some life back into their season with wins in four of their past six games, Brisbane will be aiming to take a much-needed scalp on the road this Saturday. They began the season extremely poorly with losses in five of their past seven, but now certainly seem to be on the right track.
The Lions have been piling on the score over the past five games where they’ve averaged a whopping 113.6 points per contest. Putting score on the board has never been an issue for the Lions in recent years, although their inability to defend fast ball movement is an issue that continues to rear its head.
There was some huge news on the injury front this week with Will Ashcroft now being listed as just one week away from a return. This week, however, the Lions have made just the one change, with the best name in footy, Shadeau Brain, coming in for the injured Noah Answerth.
Match Prediction: These old rivals met twice in 2023 and both teams came away with a win on their home deck. The Power were surprise winners in Round 1 by 54 points, although it was the Lions who got the last laugh with a 48 point win at the Gabba in the Qualifying Final.
The Lions now hold a 6-1 H2H record in their last seven meetings with the Power, although most of those clashes were at the Gabba. The Power have defeated the Lions in five of their six meetings at Adelaide Oval.
There’s very little splitting these teams in the betting markets for Saturday’s clash which tells you just how tight this is expected to be. This is certainly not a game to have huge investment in this weekend, but if you are keen on a flutter, then taking the Power on their home deck looks to be the slightly better play considering the home team has dominated this matchup for over a decade, winning 12 of the last 15 matches.

Zak Butters 25+ Disposals – He’s struggled a bit with a tag in recent weeks but I can’t see him being well held on this occasion. He’s a bit too quick for Berry and should get off the leash here.
Ollie Wines 20+ Disposals – Great value in the disposal markets and normally hits the 20 mark. Should get it done again in this one.
Joe Daniher 2+ Goals – Loves playing against the Power and has been in great form over the past five weeks.
SGM Odds: $3.30 at BoomBet
