Solid week in NFL betting tips last week as we hit on 2/3 bets to keep our winning record in the season intact. Week 9 in the NFL offers a fantastic slate of games, headlined by a massive AFC clash between the Ravens and Patriots on Monday morning.
We have a full preview and betting tips for some of the key matchups of the week below.
NFL Week 9 Betting Tips
San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals (Friday 11.20am AEDT)
The 49ers are for real, it’s official. After they had spent the first portion of the season beating up on bad teams, they made a statement at home on the weekend, downing the Carolina Panthers by a whopping 38 points to move to 7-0. They remain just one of two undefeated teams in the league along with the Patriots and have one of the best defences in the league, allowing just 11 points per game through their opening seven.
The Cardinals currently sit last in the NFC West division with a 3-4 record but might have already exceeded expectations this season. Their offence has looked dynamic at times with rookie QB Kyler Murray at the helm but their three game win streak was snapped by the Saints in New Orleans on the weekend as they went down by 22 points.
The 49ers start as strong 9.5 point favourites and rightfully so after the start they have had to the season. The Cardinals managed just nine points against a strong defence in the Saints in Week 8 and you would have to think the 49ers defence is just as good if not better. We like the away side to cover the 9.5 point spread here.
New England Patriots at Baltimore Ravens (Monday 12.20pm AEDT)
The Patriots train continue to roll on the weekend as they downed the Cleveland Browns by 14 points at home. Tom Brady put up 259 yards and two touchdowns but it was the defence for the Patriots that stood up once again. The Patriots forced another two turnovers in the win, which takes their season tally up to 25, nine more than the next best team.
The Ravens will be coming off the bye in Week 9, not having played since the 20th of October when they travelled to Seattle and picked up a 14 point win on the road. The win marked their third in a row and sent them to 5-2 on the season and in the lead in the AFC North division.
The Pats will be seeing a different type of offence this week, led by Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, who is a threat both in the air and along the ground. However, it’s against 1st or 2nd year quarterbacks that the Bill Belichick defences have feasted in recent history. The Patriots are 21-0 in their last 21 games against 1st or 2nd year quarterbacks, and should give Jackson real trouble this week.
Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants (Tuesday 12.15pm AEDT)
A great NFC East rivalry will get another instalment on Tuesday, albeit without nearly as much hype as matchups from previous years have garnered. The Giants come into this home game on the back of a four game losing streak and currently sit in third place in the division with a 2-6 record. Rookie QB Daniel Jones has looked mercurial at times, but has ultimately failed to put up enough points to keep the Giants relevant, averaging just 17.75 over the last four games.
The Cowboys have had an up and down season, which hit rock bottom with a Week 6 loss to the New York Jets. They bounced back in Week 7, however, as they defeated the Eagles at home by 27 points. They a will be on the back of a bye week when they travel back to New York in Week 8, and will start as heavy favourites.
The week off should help iron out a lot of the niggling injuries the Cowboys were dealing with, particularly to skill position players. They start as 7 point favourites on the road, but it’s the total that we are more interested in. The two teams combined have hit the over in 8 of 15 games and the Giants have allowed the sixth most points per game this season at 27.3.
