Race 4: Happy Easter From Brc BM78 1660m – 2:53pm (AEDT)
(10) Iverson $4.80: looks like he’s turned the corner since moving north to join the Heathcote stable after two very good runs this time in. It was a cracking finale first-up over 1350m when he came from last on the turn and really surged late over the final 50m to win (loved the way he hit the line). He then went to 1400m LS and beat all-bar NAVAL TRADER after sitting back off a strong tempo (ties in with MAYFAIR SPIRIT / beat the rest easily). He’s had 5 goes on heavy tracks before with no placings, so that’s a query if it remains a genuine heavy rating. Conversely, he has a very good record on soft tracks, so I’m hoping it gets toward that range come race time. He arrives third-up and peaking fitness wise, looks like he wants the mile now, draws a lovely gate for Rodd to settle midfield, and he has a very good TOF on his day. Happy his way.
(8) Mascaret $4.40: Early favourite who is proven on the soft track. Should handle the heavy. Good record over this trip and is rock hard fit. Goes well.
(10) Iverson
$4.80 (1.5 Units)
Race 9: Sky Racing BM88 1350m 5:57pm (AEDT)
(8) Kanazawa $5.50/$2.10: this is a very open race, but I’m happy to play at the each-way price after he got the job done for us last time in. He box seated and then quickened very nicely from the 4-200m mark (second fastest of the race) which stole him the race. He was strong enough over the line and he’s proven over 1400m in the past, so the extra 150m today should be no issue. He maps so well from gate 4 (should settle right behind the leaders), gets in OK after the claim, handles all track conditions, and will take improvement from his first two runs. If we go back a few preparations, he ran to within 0.6L of THINK ABOUT IT over 1300m at Randwick, and we all know what that horse has gone on to do. Looks a great e/w bet.
(1) Eaglemont $6.00: Resuming 7YO who is proven on the wet and I expect to see him flying late. Looks a nice each way bet with Jimmy ORMAN in the saddle. Draws a sticky gate, but should slot in behind the others where he will save up energy for that late run. Worth thought.
(8) Kanazawa E/W
$5.50/$2.10 (1U/2U)
