The rail out 4m the entirety after being out 0.5m last week (no disadvantage being on-speed / inside lanes), and our selections are for a GOOD track – watch and monitor if possible.

Doomben Racing Tips: Saturday, August 26th 2023
Race 2: Cascade BM90 2020m at 12:28pm AEST
(4) WAIRERE FALLS ($3.50) – he doesn’t win out of turn, but this looks an ideal set up today. Three-back he went well over the mile when he raced tight down the straight but still did his best work late (hit the line nicely). He then went to this track / trip in the same grade (BM90) and just missed STUCK WITH YOU on the post (strong through the line). There were big gaps to fourth, OTYRAR, who since won and beat MUBARIZ and SHAMELESS MISS easily (ties in). Went back to 1835m LS and sat OSL on a moderate tempo, was clearly headed by NIKAU SPUR and others, but showed great fight to pick himself up and dead heat for second with NIKAU SPUR (got warm late / good run). Gets in well at the weights after the claim, wants the extra furlong, goes best on top of the ground, and maps to sit right behind the speed. Go well (2 units win)
(1) LINTHORPE LAD ($13/$5) – 6YO gelding who has been a little plain of late, but does have a nice record at Doomben. Gets Wheeler in the saddle who claims 3kg, so gets in light off previous outings. Shouldn’t require much luck with the small field here. Expect him to be in the finish here.

Race 5: XXXX Plate C6 1350m at 2:13pm AEST
*Scratched* (3) KINLOCH ($3.10) – I think he’s flying this prep! He went enormous first-up when forced back near last from the wide gate and sat 3-wide the entirety before having a checkered passage down the straight and hitting the line strongly to run third (RELEASE THE BEANS and JEMELDI have since won / run well). Second-up he was held up for a considerable amount of time and only seen clear air inside the furlong (ran well / didn’t ping second-up). Latest he was again held up at a key stage before angling off and putting a dive in on the past to just miss CANADIAN DANCER (beat the rest easily / HOT SPRING GOLD has since won). Fourth-up today after a 4-week freshen that included a trial where he ticked over nicely under a strong hold. Slight query on the sticky gate (he’ll likely get back in the run) but there looks good speed on paper and he gets in so well this weight scale as the top rater. If there’s no leader bias, he can win (2.5 units win)
(1) BRIARS KINGDOM ($7.50/$2.20) – 7YO gelding who is resuming today and is yet to miss the placings first up. Won two nice races before taking on a tough challenge in a BM84. Has had a trial and should be in the finish at a nice price. Enjoys the give in the ground too, so a soft track will be key. Value horse.

Race 9: Gallopers Sports Club BM85 1615m at 4:38pm AEST
(2) POINT COUNTERPOINT ($11/$3.50) – 6YO gelding who is second up today after competing in the Coffs harbour Cup first up. Boasts a nice record at this distance, second up and on the soft ground. Should be fitter for this run and looks a nice roughie chance. Cejay GRAHAM jumps on board and we get a 2kg claim. Goes well at a price.
(6) SHOPPING ESPRIT ($4.60) – 7YO gelding who has a nice resume. Just missed last start to create the picket fence, however drops back slightly in class off that run. Jimmy ORMAN gets the ride which Is a positive. Proven over this distance and on the soft track. Expect a nice run here at a decent price. Goes well.
