AFL Round 14 Preview & Betting Tips
Brisbane vs Sydney
Friday 7:50pm AEST, June 16th, Gabba
Both struggling for form and coming off losses in Round 13, Brisbane and Sydney will do battle at the Gabba on Friday night.
It’ll be interesting to see the crowd this fixture pulls considering the disappointment performances for both proud clubs in recent weeks, although the prime time slot certainly helps.
Brisbane will be pleased to be back on their home deck for this one after losing back-to-back road games. Their form at home compared to away this season has been chalk and cheese and they’ve copped a lot of scrutiny from the media this week as a result.
However, the Lions will be confident of bouncing back in front of their home fans on Friday night considering they’ve won all five home games this season and two of them came against top four sides in Collingwood and Melbourne.
Interestingly, out-of-form duo Jack Gunston and Daniel Rich decided to drop themselves from the senior side this week, which is something you certainly don’t see very often in elite sport.
On the flip side, Sydney’s form has been poor no matter what venue they play at this season. They’ve already lost four times at home including last weekend against the Saints in what was one of the uglier matches to watch as a neutral.
Perhaps the most worrying element of the Swans play this season has been their defence, which has been decimated by injury. Through the first dozen games the Swans have already given up 80+ points on six different occasions.
Making matters worse, the Swans will be without key players Lance Franklin and Isaac Heeney this weekend, with both set to miss due to injury.
Miserably out of form and fielding a side that is far from full strength, it’s hard to see how the Swans will challenge one of the better home teams in the competition in the Lions on Friday night.
I’m expecting the Lions to bounce back in a big way on their home deck and to inflict further pain on the Swans who look a shell of themselves in season 2023.

Joe Daniher 2+ Goals – Has kicked 2+ goals in every home game this season and will be keen to bounce back to form after a quiet game against the Hawks last weekend.
Errol Gulden 20+ Disposals – With so many Swans midfielders injured, a lot of pressure is put on Errol to perform. He should reach 20 disposals with ease in this one.
Will Ashcroft 25+ Disposals – Plays far better at home than away. He’s reached this mark in every game at the Gabba this season.
Josh Dunkley 25+ Disposals – Is putting together a fantastic season for the Lions and is in career-best form. Pretty confident he gets to 25 here.
