Not only is the Super Bowl one of the best days on the betting calendar for sporting purposes, it’s also super fun and exciting because of all of the novelty props on offer! Monday’s game between the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles will be no different, with betting agencies across Australia already having released some great, and in some cases, absolutely ridiculous novelty prop bets! See our tips for the funner side of the Super Bowl below.
Pre game
The fun starts, as always, with the pre game festivities, and one of the major novelty events of every Super Bowl is of course the national anthem! This year, pop-star Pink will sing the Star Spangled Banner before the game, and the length of her rendition is one of the more popular betting markets going around.
The line at William Hill currently stands at 121.5 seconds. There’s very limited data to go on here, we struggled to find any previous time Pink had sung a national anthem on record, but based on previous Diva’s renditions of the anthem the overs look the goods here.
2012: Kelly Clarkson – 130 seconds
2013: Alicia Keys – 157 seconds
2015: Idena Menzel – 125 seconds
2016: Lady Gaga – 130 seconds
Pink might not be as much of a show woman as the others on this list, but we are still backing the overs in here! It would also surely be a joke if Pink didn’t come out with her classic pink hair for one of the bigger moments in her career!
TIP: National Anthem length OVER 121.5 seconds - $1.55 at William Hill
TIP: Pink to have pink/red hair - $3 at William Hill
During the game
Donald Trump’s Twitter feed is a great source of entertainment when it’s not Super Bowl day. But how many tweets with the POTUS send out while the game is on? The current line is set at just 2.5 Tweets. In last years Super Bowl, the Don tweeted once before the game and once after, but didn’t actually tweet during the game, even though it was one of the more exciting in Super Bowl history! We have to back the trends here and say he’ll enjoy the game sans his mobile phone once again this year.
TIP: Number of Donald Trump tweets during the Super Bowl UNDER 2.5 - $1.91 at William Hill
New England coach Bill Belichick is famous for his hoodies on game day. The Patriots colours are obviously blue, red and white, so the most famous coach in the NFL usually dons a hoodie either blue, red or grey. It’s always a big talking point going into a Patriots Super Bowl, and while we are sure it wouldn’t effect his mindset at all, a lot of Pats fans have become superstitious of the teams results related to Bill’s hoodie colour! We think there is only one option for Bill here. Every time he has donned the Blue coloured hoodie or spray jacket in a Super Bowl, the Patriots have won. Two out of the three times he has worn a different colour, they have been defeated, back blue!
TIP: Bill Belichick to wear a blue hoodie/jacket/sweatshirt - $1.50 at William Hill
Post game
The hot market of the post game antics is always the colour of the Gatorade or energy drink dumped on the head of the winning coach! Clear is the hot favourite here after it has been the colour in eight of the 16 known dumpings. The last two Patriots Super Bowl victories have seen clear and blue Gatorade being thrown. Blue looks the value this year.
TIP: Blue Gatorade/liquid to be dumped over winning coach - $3.50 at William Hill
