Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Sunday, August 9th.
We round out the weekend with a look at Sunday's racing at Bendigo and Dubbo, where Luke Krahe has provided his three best bets of the day below!
Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, August 9th
Bendigo Race 1 - (Market)
(1) Captain Corelli is a Mick Price first-starter that had two jump-outs back in March, was sent back to the paddock and given more time. He has had two unofficial trials at Caufield since resuming, the latest of those is the one I was most impressed with. He jumped away fairly but elected to not get involved in the early speed contest, electing to take a sit. None of the horses to the outside wanted to cross so he hunted through to join them, loved the way he worked through the line when revved up over the last furlong. A replay of that jump-out can be found here. There are a lot of unknowns here so I would like to see some money for him, one horse that I will be wary of if she gets a start is the first emergency (15) Divine Diosa. She was good through the line when resuming and looks suited getting out in ground on the bigger track second-up. Don’t have her going around a loser in the book.

Dubbo Race 1- (Market)
We also get a heavy track at Dubbo today, (1) Five Star Gal looks a good bet to get the day started the right way, with a winner! Two starts back here at the track in this grade she ran on hard after getting out to the best part of the track but just missed. She then was very easy in the betting in an easier race at Gilgandra but punished the layers, sitting up outside the speed for a narrow but solid win. She stays at this level, drawn well with the claim, expect that she will be up on the pace for a long way.
Dubbo Race 5 - (Market)
(3) Amy’s Shadow has not missed a place in 5 career starts, she resumed for her second campaign still a maiden but dropped that tag with authority at Warren. She was very short in the betting and lived up to the quote, destroying her rivals by almost 4 lengths. Her first go against other winners was 5 weeks ago at Muswellbrook in a race no easier than this, she got well back and was beautifully ridden between runners in the straight. She had her chance but was beaten by a better horse on the day, that winner went on to win a Class 3 at its next start then was well found in a Highway at Randwick a week ago. It looks the right form line, drawn well with the claim, hopefully can settle closer and this looks a great chance to get win number two.
