Match Preview
The Sharks demonstrated their class against the Rabbitohs last week, dominating all areas and giving little opportunities to their opponents in their commanding 27-12 win. Dominating possession (57%), they carried the ball strongly (9.8m per carry & 610pcm’s) and defended well (just 20 missed tackles). It is a sign that this team is well placed to continue to achieve success.
The Bulldogs remained undefeated with a grinding 16-8 victory over the Eels. Expected to dominate the contest after a 4th minute try, the Bulldogs had a much harder time from that point onwards. They were measured (86% completion rate) with the ball but still have areas to improve upon. Having 35 missed tackles is not ideal, nor is the fact that they didn’t score a try from the 33rd minute onwards. The better teams will make them pay for mistakes, but they are a team which is trending in the right direction in the early stages of their 2025 campaign.
The Sharks are strong favourites for this match and rightly so given their form to start the year. Throw into the mix that the Bulldogs are missing quality players in key positions and the challenged of winning this game is increased for the visitors. The only viable option, other than an upset by the Bulldogs, appears to be a win for the Sharks. The fact that they have won 7 of the past 10 matches between these two sides and have a superior record at home (58% vs 43%) further supports their cause.
The challenge becomes finding value in this contest. For good measure, the Bulldogs are undefeated; a poor showing last week against a struggling Eels team isn’t a glowing endorsement though. They need to be better if they’re going to compete with the Sharks. In their first real test this season, they are going to struggle for points against a strong defensive unit. Therefore, the value lies within the Total Points market, which is set well below the average in their past 5 meetings (37.8 points).

Leg 1: Iro to score – he is the Sharks leading try scorer this year with 3 tries and has added a new, damaging dimension to his game close to the line. He is bound to be another attacking threat in this contest.
Leg 2: Stonestreet to score – He crossed last week and is making the most of his chance in the NRL. A great finisher, he will find himself with plenty of opportunities close to the tryline.
Leg 3: Mulitalo to score – He has crossed just once this season, but the Bulldogs looked vulnerable on the edges last week and you can expect Ronaldo to want to add to his tally to start the season.
SGM Odds: $7.00 at BoomBet
