Match Preview
Adelaide are sitting pretty in second place, with a whopping percentage of 172.1%, with wins by 63 and 61 points to start 2025. As expected when you score 161 points, the Crows had some serious performances across their 22.
Josh Rachele (4 goals), Ben Keays (4), Riley Thilthorpe (3), Darcy Fogarty (3) all had good afternoons in front of goals, with 12 different Crows players kicking a major. Jordan Dawson (33 disposals), Matt Crouch (32 disposals) and Jake Soligo (27 disposals) ran riot through the midfield.
A stunning final quarter led North Melbourne to their biggest win in five years, with a 59 point win over Melbourne in Round 2. The Kangaroos kicked 8 goals to 1 in the final quarter to blow the Demons off the park, with Cameron Zurhaar (4 goals), Nick Larkey (3) and Paul Curtis (3) doing the damage in front of goal.
Tom Powell produced a coming of age performance in the middle of the ground, with 31 disposals and 8 clearances, while Tristian Xerri dominated in the ruck with 29 hitouts, 20 disposals, 12 clearances and 1 goal.
Adelaide’s start to the season has been nothing short of outstanding. The Crows rank 1st for points, 1st for marks, 2nd for disposals, 2nd for inside 50’s and 5th in post clearance contested possessions. The Crows are outstanding at controlling possession around the ground, and giving their dangerous forward line plenty of looks inside 50.
The big question will be around whether North Melbourne’s defence can stand up against the Crows dynamic forward line. Adelaide have four of the top eleven goal kickers in the league, and they’re going to get plenty of supply given the Crows have had 63 and 59 inside 50’s across their opening two games. The Kangaroos backline did a great job against Melbourne, however the Crows forward line is a vastly different challenge.
Adelaide have scored over 100 points in five of their last six games against the Roos, with their other game producing 98 points. If Thilthorpe, Walker, Fogarty and Rachele get the service they’ve had over the last fortnight, North Melbourne will be in trouble.
Adelaide have had the wood over the Kangaroos, winning six straight games against North Melbourne, by an average winning margin of 49 points. Adelaide Oval hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the Roos with an 0-11 record at the Adelaide Oval, with 8 of those losses coming against the Crows.
When a young side experiences a big win, there is often a tendency for a let down performance, and given the factors that face the Roos in this clash, it looms as a large possibility. The Crows are red hot at the moment, and just have too much developed class for the Roos to handle.

Jordan Dawson 25+ Disposals: The Adelaide skipper has had an excellent start to 2025, with performances of 27 and 33 disposals across the opening two games. Dawson finished last season with four straight games of 25+ disposals, and will be out to continue his strong record against the Roos. Since joining the Crows Dawson has produced games of 27, 28, 33 and 29 disposals against North Melbourne.
Jake Soligo 20+ Disposals: After a breakout season in 2024 where he averaged a career high 22 disposals, Jake Soligo has taken his game to another level. Soligo has started 2025 with 29 and 27 disposals, and is benefiting from being a part of a red hot midfield where Jordan Dawson and Matt Crouch are receiving plenty of attention from opposing sides.
Paul Curtis 2+ Goals: We said it last week and we’ll say it again, Paul Curtis has become one of the most reliable goal scorers in the competition. Curtis has kicked 6 goals from the first two games of the season, with 3 goals in each game. After kicking 30 goals last season, Curtis looks set to become one of the best small forwards in the competition this season.
