Horse Racing Tips: Friday, August 7th
Ballarat Synthetic Race 1 - (Market)
(7) The Duke Of Hazard has been to the races twice, both on the synthetic surface at Pakenham. He debuted over 1200m and was very well backed late from $5 into $4, over-raced, was held-up before chasing steadily to the line. He then was again at the 6 furlongs and settled behind the speed, angled wide and hit the line well, but just found one better on the day (that winner came out and ran well enough in town since) and it was daylight back to third. He steps up from the 1200m to the 1500m, draws beautifully and should be making his own luck up on the speed. The blinkers go off, is there is any black odds around in the run when he lobs in front.. Take it!

(9) Dress is going to start a short-priced favourite for the Maher/Eustace stable, I am not sold either way on her here so happy to go looking elsewhere on an each-way basis. (3) Gwen’s Gift is enigmatic but has shown that she can put in a good one every now and then. Still a maiden after 12 starts, she is a back-marker that should get the right tempo. Two back at Swan Hill she was not beaten far in a good form reference for a maiden, her only other start on a synthetic track was here ono debut when not beaten far after sitting off the track. She draws to get a soft run and looks good value into double figure-odds for win and place bettors.
Tamworth Race 1 - (Market)
(8) Tools Down resumed at Grafton and after being fairly away, was bumped at the start before driving through to lead. He boxed on ok in what was a much harder maiden than this to run second, holding third easily. He then dropped back to an easier Wellington maiden, was well backed to start a $2.40 favourite. He led again and was disappointing on paper to finish well beaten, happy to forgive him that run as a second-up flop. He gets the inside, looks the leader and there appears to be no pressure early on paper. He can bounce back in what is a thin race.
Tamworth Race 3 - (Market)
(6) Peroxide Blonde has obviously had some issues, the daughter of Mossman was formerly with the Ellerton/Zahra stable south of the border before having a year off and changing yards. She had trialed well after the long break before going into her resuming run here at the track, she was easy in the betting but still started as favourite. She led on the rails, was headed inside the last furlong, well beaten but she stuck on well off such a long break to hold down second. She gets a minor gear change, Greg Ryan sticks with the ride and should be on the speed for a long way again.
