Horse Racing Tips: Thursday, August 6th
Warrnambool Race 2 - (Market)
(9) Kogi Lass placed at her first four starts, she was sent to the paddock and most would have thought that it wouldn’t be long before she was no longer a maiden. She resumed at Donald and was held-up at a vital stage and no doubt should have finished closer. Second-up she sat outside the speed and stuck on well, although well beaten she didn’t shirk the task. At her latest effort, she was back on a good trqack at Swan Hill and after settling mid-field, she was only fair in the run home. She does strike a heavy track for the first time, the breeding suggest she should handle it. The big tick with me is that she gets the blinkers on for the first time, after looking very plain at her last couple, she should be a lot sharper and maps beautifully.

(3) Wazuzu is a former Kiwi that was off the scene a long time before coming across the ditch, he didn’t show a lot at his first couple of starts in Australia before coming here to the Bool a couple of weeks ago. He was faced with a heavy track that day also, settling back in the field he took off a mile from home and was forced to make a long-sustained run. He was very wide but loomed up, was clearly headed in ythe straight but fought back off the canvas to score. He does have to step up from the 2000m today, the way that he stuck on he should be grinding it out as good as any. Obviously there are no stars, hopefully he can get on his bike before the turn and be too tough.
Coffs Harbour Race 1 - (Market)
It has been 38 weeks since (1) Ready For Danger has won a race but this looks the right platform to get back in that winner’s circle and get Matty Dunn off to the perfect start on Cup Day. He resumed across the border at Listed level over an unsuitable 1350m, unsuroprisingly he was triple figure odds and beaten out of sight. He then went to Ipswich second-up and after getting back in the run over a mile, got to the line well enough without threatening. It was an advantage to be up on the speed that day, nothing was really jumping up out of the ground. He was racing well getting into the Spring of last year, stepping up in trip looks ideal and this is a big class drop.

Coffs Harbour Race 7 - (Market)
The Cup for 2020 looks an open one on paper, I have settled with last start winner (6) Jazzland as a good each-way bet. He resumed in town on a heavy track and did absolutely nothing, obviously not fit on the very wet ground was a tough ask over that trip and he was beaten out of sight. He had a couple of weeks between runs before heading up the Pacific Highway to Grafton over the carnival, winning the South Grafton Cup. He is an on-pace type that stays at the mile, these country Cups with big fields can often be genuinely run but I don’t see a stack of speed here. He draws beautifully and should have all the options, backing him each-way should be profitable. (10) Academy will be well supported, he goes in as my lay of the day. He resumed with a Wyong win in much easier grade and has been fair at three runs since, but they just haven’t made up their mind the best way to ride him? From the draw I can see them going forward and getting parked in the breeze, take him on.
