Big night of Harness Racing as always this Friday, the 8th of February! Our harness and greyhounds tipping series has gotten off to a flyer over the last few weeks and we'll look to continue the form as we give our best bets from Gloucester Park and Albany below.
Harness Racing Tips - Friday February 8th
Gloucester Park
Race 1
Back To The Beach should have enough gate speed to hold the lead and his recent form is good enough to capture this Level 10 race. Five starts ago he defeated Bright Diamond from barrier two. Since then, Back To The Beach has been placed twice from four attempts and both unplaced runs have still been good.
I really liked his run three starts ago when racing outside the leader and finishing 2.3m from Bronze Seeker in this class. Chris Lewis is a great frontrunning driver and should kick off the program with a winner.
Race 2
Runaway Three will be a leading contender here and he is the most likely leader from barrier three. He will have to be sharp late with Come Dance With Me in the race because that mare can jump out of the ground late. Stuart McDonald drives her well and her closing sectionals will make her a huge threat in the race.
Come Dance With Me has won two of her past five starts and her last-start third was very good in a quick 56.5 last half at Pinjarra. Two starts ago she was a dominant 7.7m winner over Ona Happy Note and that form should stack up here.
Race 10
Vrai Amour returned with a sixth-placed effort in 1:55.0 for the 1730m. Prior to a long spell, the Debra Lewis-trained gelding had won back-to-back races in C0 and C1 company. That class system is no longer used in WA, but it is fair to say this is a big class rise from those wins. His first up run however was in this class so that’s the run I am looking at when assessing his chances tonight.
Our Rhythm N Blues also resumes and will be a strong chance but with a difference in price and barrier draw advantage, I am happy to be siding with Vrai Amour. Chris Voak drives Atmospherical and has a knack for winning the last so could be worth a small bet also as we look to take on the favourite.
Albany Harness Tips
Race 1
I’m not sure how many Tim Stone-trained horses have gone around odds on, especially from the outside of the second row. Bettor Copagoodone is the horse that appeals in the opening race after a first-up third at Bridgetown behind The War Nurse. Trent Wheeler drives well at Albany and the three-year-old filly prepared by Terry Ferguson looks to have excellent prospects in this race.
Her only win came in a 2YO race and while her numerical form looks poor, she raced against some of the best two-year-olds in the state last season. Expect her to run a big race tonight.
