Round 2 Australian Open Betting Tips

Eva Lys vs Varvara Gracheva

This wasn't the match-up many had pencilled in for the second round when the draw was announced, but it is Eva Lys and Varvara Gracheva set to do battle for a place in the third round of the Australian Open.

Eva Lys found out 10 minutes before her first round match with Kim Birrell that she would be replacing the injured Anna Kalinskaya, and it looked to do her the world of good. She played with the most freedom and comfort I have seen from her in recent times, after what was a very tight performance in the final round of qualifying against Destanee Aiava. She is a strong player who is still on the rise in the game, and the confidence in which she spoke after the match shows that she is on the right path in terms of her career progression and overall development.

I think that Lys is very well placed to progress even further here, as she takes on Varvara Gracheva. I opposed Gracheva in round 1, and Caty McNally did not perform to expectations. Gracheva couldn’t make gains on her career high ranking of 39 just over 12 months ago, now sitting just inside the Top 70 in the world. Her performances overall are plagued with inconsistency, and when you marry up her form against Lys, it is hard to make a strong case for the Russian in this one.

I feel Gracheva has been overrated in the market a touch, and as a result I will be taking Lys to win here.
