Ascot hosts a nine-race card on Saturday with the Majorie Charleson Classic and Schweppes WATC Derby as the feature races. Race 1 starts at 2:09pm (AEST), while the last concludes at 7:00pm. The rail is back to the TRUE position this week after being out 7m last week, and our selections are for a GOOD track with fine weather predicted – watch and monitor for any pattern if possible.

Race 3: Majorie Charleson Classic 1200m - 3:22pm (AEDT)
(1) Baby Paris $2.40: one of the best weighted horses all day under SWP conditions. She returns first-up after a strong trial win over 1000m beating home WESTERN EMPIRE (Group 1 Railway Stakes winner) by a space. I think she’s the best horse in the race and she has the superior form lines last prep to her opposition. She beat home RUSTY DREAMS in a Jungle Dawn Classic over 1400m after leading them up and was too good for PHANTA et al in the Black Heart Bart Stakes over this track/trip. She had genuine excuses in two of her failures behind AMBER GLIDE and RED CAN MAN when she was forced to race wide throughout. Draws gate 2 for Turner and I think she’ll either lead or camp behind REAL DANGER for a gun run in transit. She has a good record fresh, likes 1200m, and goes well at Ascot. If she produces anything near her best, she’ll win.
(2) Real Danger $3.10 5YO mare who boasts an impressive record and loves this distance and the soft track. Not disgraced in the classic two runs back and only 3L off them LS. This looks a little easier and she will be around the mark again.
(1) Baby Paris
$2.40 (4 Units)
Race 4: Mrs Macs Bm66+ 2400m – 4:02pm (AEST)
(2) Flower In The Wind $2.45: she’s getting to be short enough now, but I’m with the early market push and think she’s very hard to beat on the quick back-up. She’s a mare in terrific form who’s clearly found her sweet spot. It was all honours to her two-back over 2100m when she raced 3WNC the entirety before rounding them up down the straight to win running away from them (sensational win / strong through the line). She then went to 2200m LS with 60kgs on her back, she sat back in the field when SOLDANELLE made a mid-race move before sideling up to them inside the furlong and putting them to the sword (won eased down / again strong over the line). She drops 2kgs to help offset the rise in grade and maps OK from the good draw (hopefully she settles a little closer today). She has a nice TOF and can win again. Keen.
(9) Shes Perfection $5.50: 3YO filly who hasn’t saluted yet from her 6 career starts, but she has been running in some classy races and hasn’t been finishing that far behind. May be a bit short still here, but expect her to be playing a role in this field.
(2) Flower In The Wind
$2.45 (4 Units)
Race 7: Schweppes W.A.T.C Derby 2400m–5:50pm (AEST)
(2) A Lot Of Good Men $5.00: he’s been costly his last two starts but I’m hoping we can get some back today. It was a difficult watch two-back in the Roberts Stakes over 1800m when he wanted to over-race during the middle stages, was caught 3WNC for periods, and was shuffled back before turning for home yet he hit the line hard to finish fourth beaten 1.6L (the run had merit all things considered). He then went to the Melvista Stakes over 2200m LS (key lead-up race) and he produced the best 4-200m split (11.20secs) and the second best L200m split (11.32secs) of the meeting! I think they were a bit too negative that day after jumping on terms with them from gate 1 which shuffled him right back to an impossible position. They draw a lovely gate again today, so I’m hoping they can settle a little closer in the run. He gets a weight swing on key rivals BUCKET’S RIDGE and ALASKAN, and looks like he’ll eat the 2400m. If he’s within striking distance turning for home, he’s a great chance. Good value runner.
(5) Buckets Ridge $4.50: Won nicely last start in the Melvista Stakes and looks suitable to go on with it, but will need to lug some extra weight this time round. Watch the market and a heap of the money may be due to Pike being in the saddle.
(2) A Lot Of Good Men
$5.00 (1.5 Units)
