PGA Tour Houston Open Betting Tips
Memorial Park Golf Course, Thursday 28th - Sunday 31st March
It was a well deserved break for many of the top line PGA Tour players last week at the Valspar Championship, which followed a successful event at The Players. The tour ramps back up this week with just a few weeks to go until the first major of the year at Augusta. Many players are using this as the start of their preparation for the event, so the field has some real quality in it.
The FIeld
The No.1 player in the world in Scottie Scheffler will be back in action after successfully defending his crown at The Players a few weeks ago, as well as claiming his second straight tour victory after winning the Arnold Palmer just one week prior.
Other top line names in the field include major winners Wyndham Clark and Jason Day as well as top ranked players in Sahith Theegala, Will Zalatoris, Tony Finay, Si Wook Kim and Billy Horschel.
Past winners of the event who will be looking to add another trophy to the case this week include Finau, Lanto Griffin and J.B. Holmes.
The Course
Memorial Park Golf Course, established in 1912, initially operated as a nine-hole public course. The subsequent $15 million expansion and renovation, overseen by renowned designer Tom Doak, laid the foundation for the PGA Tour-caliber course you encounter today.
This Par 70 course spans slightly over 7,400 yards, exceeding typical PGA Tour lengths. While its fairways are generously wide and offer alternative paths to the green, the true test lies in the undulating and spacious greens.
Last year, Tony Finau secured victory with an impressive performance on the greens. As we approach this year’s tournament, our focus remains on skillful putters.
Betting Tips
Scottie Scheffler ($3.60/$1.75 Top 5)
I mean, I think I am almost doing you a disservice by tipping Scottie Scheffler to win the tournament this week at $3.60. We are getting to a stage of dominance now that has not been seen since the early 2000s Tiger Woods, but I just can’t see how Scheffler isn’t right in the mix on Sunday, even at that price. He has won his last two tournaments, has finished in the top 10 in nine of his last 10 tournaments and has not missed a cut since August of 2022.
Joseph Bramlett ($110/Top 40 $2.30)
For a bit more value this week, I like the look of Joseph Bramlett. The 35 year old has been rounding into some form of late, making the cut in three of his last four tournaments and finishing T17 at the Valspar Championship last week. Had one of his better results of the season last year when he finished T9 at the Houston Open.
