Week 16 action in the NFL continues on Monday with a 10 game slate. As always, we have you covered with betting tips for all 10 games below.
NFL Week 16 Monday Betting Tips
Cleveland Browns at Houston Texans
5.00am (AEDT)
An AFC clash with massive playoff implications here as the Browns travel to Houston to take on the Texans from 5.00am. The Browns have won their last two games on the trot to move to 9-5 on the season and are just two games back from the AFC North leading Baltimore Ravens. A win here would almost certainly lock up a wildcard in the AFC as well.
The Texans claimed a three point win over the Titans in Week 15 to set up what should be a thrilling finish in the race for the AFC South. The Jags, Colts and Texans are all locked on 8-6 at the top of the division, so this one is crucial for Houston. Both the Texans offence and defence is ranked inside the top half of the league, but they are still without star QB C.J. Stroud through concussion.
With both sides playing a backup QB here and both possessing strong defences, I think this one goes under the total. The under is 9-6 in Texans games this season, having hit in four of the last five. 40.5 seems a bit high here.
Betting Stats
- All six of the Cleveland Browns road games this season have gone under the total while four of the past five Texans games have gone under.
- The Texans have covered the spread in seven of the past eight meetings between these two AFC opponents.
Dallas Cowboys at Miami Dolphins
8.25am (AEDT)
Just when everything looked to be going the Cowboys way, having won five straight games with dominant offensive performances, it all came crashing down in Buffalo on the weekend. Their offence struggled in the rain, losing 31-10 to fall to 10-4 on the season, keeping the Eagles in the hunt for the NFC East.
The Dolphins have been fantastic against teams with losing records this season, but whenever they have come up against a stronger opponent, they have usually stumbled. They have already sustained losses to the Bills, Eagles, Chiefs and Titans, and now come against a Cowboys offence that should be better off in more friendly weather this week.
These two teams are the top two ranked offences in the league, averaging a combined 62.3 points per game. Neither has shown a desire to play a lot of defence throughout the season so far, so in good weather, I think this one goes over.
Betting Stats
- In their last nine games coming off a straight up loss, the Cowboys are 9-0 against the spread, dating back to last season.
- The Dolphins are 0-3 straight up and against the spread against teams with winning records this season.
- The over is 16/14 in games involving the Cowboys or Dolphins this season.
New England Patriots at Denver Broncos
12.15pm (AEDT)
It’s a bit of a lackluster end to the day as the Denver Broncos host the New England Patriots in the prime-time game. At 3-11, the Patriots are playing for draft picks from here on out, having lost their Week 15 clash against the Chiefs by 10 points. They are 3-10-1 against the spread this season and currently maintain the 3rd pick in the draft, one that they’ll be keen to improve on.
The Broncos are 7-7 on the season, sitting two games back from the Chiefs in the AFC West and right in the mix for a wildcard. They are coming off a disappointing 25 point loss to the Lions on the weekend, but have an extremely winnable stretch against the Patriots, Chargers and Raiders to finish the season. There’s no doubt they will fancy their chances against all three of those teams.
Treating this one as a hungry dog runs faster game. The Broncos have their season on the line and the Patriots will probably want to lose despite being pretty frisky over the last two weeks. The Broncos have won four straight at home and should win comfortably here.
Betting Stats
- The Patriots are 5-14 against the spread when an underdog over the past two season.
- In prime time games this season, the unders are 32-17 while they are 155-104-4 over the past five seasons.
