A-League Round 12 Preview & Betting Tips
Melbourne Victory vs Western United
AAMI Park, Friday 10th January, 7:35pm AEDT
Melbourne Victory take on Western United at AAMI Park in what should be a closely fought A-League clash. Victory are sitting fourth on the ladder with 19 points from 11 matches and have been solid at home this season, unbeaten in their last seven games at AAMI Park. However, their form has been a bit shaky lately, and they’ll need to step it up if they want to keep their home streak alive.
Western United, currently sixth with 18 points from 12 games, come into this one as underdogs, but they’ve shown they can cause problems. Before their recent loss, they were on a roll with four straight wins, and their ability to hit teams on the counter and take advantage of set pieces makes them a genuine chance to pull off an upset. They’ve proven to be a tough team to break down when they’re on their game.
The recent head-to-head record between these two is evenly split, with both teams winning twice and one match ending in a draw. Victory’s strong home record makes them favourites, but Western United’s form and knack for performing on the road mean this one is far from a sure thing. Taking Western United to either win or force a draw is the best value play here.

Melbourne City vs Brisbane Roar
AAMI Park, Saturday 11th January, 5:00pm AEDT
Melbourne City are set to host Brisbane Roar at AAMI Park in an A-League matchup that appears to heavily favour the home side. City are in strong form, sitting second on the ladder with 21 points from 11 matches. They've been unbeaten in their last six games, showcasing a solid defence and a dynamic attack.
In contrast, Brisbane Roar are enduring a tough season, languishing at the bottom of the table with just two points from 11 games. They've yet to secure a win this season, having lost nine matches and drawn two. Their recent 1-0 home loss to Newcastle Jets extended their winless streak, and they've struggled both offensively and defensively throughout the campaign.
Historically, Melbourne City have had the upper hand in this fixture, and given the current form of both teams, they are expected to dominate proceedings. Brisbane Roar will need to produce a remarkable performance to challenge City and break their winless run. However, considering their ongoing struggles and City's impressive form, an upset seems unlikely. With that said, back City to win by 2+ goals in this one.

Sydney FC vs Central Coast Mariners
Allianz Stadium, Saturday 11th January, 7:35pm AEDT
Sydney FC take on Central Coast Mariners at Allianz Stadium in what should be a cracking A-League match. Sydney are currently seventh on the table with 17 points from 11 games. Their season has been a bit up and down, but they’re coming off a big 3-0 win over Perth Glory, which will give them some confidence heading into this one. They’ve been solid at home, and their defence has looked sharper in recent matches.
The Mariners are sitting ninth with 14 points from 11 matches, and it’s been a mixed bag for them too. They’ve shown they can pull off surprises, including a 2-1 win over Sydney earlier this season, but consistency has been their biggest challenge. A couple of heavy losses recently highlights their defensive struggles, but they’ll be hoping to bounce back with a better showing this time.
This rivalry has been close in recent years, with both sides picking up two wins each in their last five clashes, alongside one draw. Sydney’s home form and momentum from their last match gives them an edge on this occasion, and I’m happy to back them into win this by at least two goals.
