BBL14 Renegades vs Heat Betting Tips

Marvel Stadium, Saturday 18th January, 5:00pm AEDT

Melbourne Renegades

Predicted XI: Josh Brown, Marcus Harris, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Jacob Bethell, Tim Seifert, Will Sutherland, Harry Dixon, Tom Rogers, Xavier Crone, Fergus O'Neill, Adam Zampa,

After their loss to the Hurricanes on Tuesday, the Renegades season looked dead and buried, however thanks to the Heat’s loss on Thursday night, there is a slim chance for Renegades to finish in the top four. It would require the Hurricanes, Sixers and Thunder to win their remaining games, the Renegades to beat the Heat and there to be a close result between the Scorchers and Strikers.

Once again, the Renegades batting unit let them down, only managing a sub par 7/154. Jacob Bethell was outstanding with 87 off 50 deliveries, but once again the Renegades top three contributed nothing. Josh Brown (6 off 10), Marcus Harris (1 off 6) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (7 off 7) continued their ordinary campaigns as the Renegades found themselves in a major hole at 3/24 after 5 overs.

The Renegades bowling attack as they have most of the season, did an admirable job at keeping their side in the game, taking the game to the final two balls. Tom Rogers (1/20), Adam Zampa (0/23) and Callum Stow (1/31) did a solid job keeping things tight, however they simply didn’t have enough runs on the board.

Brisbane Heat

Predicted XI: Colin Munro, Nathan McSweeney, Matthew Renshaw, Max Bryant, Tom Alsop, Paul Walter, Michael Neser, Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson, Matt Kuhnemann, Mitch Swepson

The Heat gave away their chance to be in control of their destiny, after a dramatic collapse in their final ball defeat against the Hurricanes. After making 6/201 thanks to Marnus Labuschagne (77) and Matthew Renshaw (40), however the Heat dropped Caleb Jewell three times on his way to 76 and conceded four costly byes in the second last over as Matthew Wade guided the Canes to victory.

The Heat will have a reshuffling of their side after Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja’s one game cameos. Colin Munro will come back into the side after being rested on Thursday, while Paul Walter will likely come back into the side after missing multiple games through injury. The big concern for the Heat is the fitness of Matt Kuhnemann who left the field with a dislocated thumb against the Hurricanes.

The Heat have the most simple route to the finals of any side outside of the top four, needing to beat the Renegades and have the Stars lose to the Hurricanes on Sunday.

Match Prediction

Both teams are coming into this game on the back of two game losing streaks, but they have come in different manners. The Heat’s batting unit has been on fire scoring 201 and 195 in their last two games, giving themselves a chance to win, but have been let down by their bowling and fielding. The Renegades have been largely out of games thanks to their batting, relying on their bowling unit to drag them into competitive games.

The Heat have won five of the last eight games between the two sides, including the last two games against the Renegades which have both been played at Marvel Stadium. The Heat’s batting unit is going to be far too strong for an out of form Renegades batting group, and they will remain in the hunt for the finals with a win on Saturday.
