There were plenty of goals in the A-League last weekend, as Melbourne City maintained their ascendency at the top of the table.
City will face an in-form Western United outfit this weekend, as the season continues to heat up heading towards finals time.

2022-23 A-League: Round 11 Preview & Betting Tips
Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar
Friday 6th January, 7.45pm (AEDT)
Brisbane will travel to Victoria again this weekend, following up their clash against Western United with a game against the Melbourne Victory. Both teams have struggled in 2022-23 – the Roar have registered the most draws in the league (6) while Victory have struggled to hit the back of the net, losing five of their first 10 matches.
This looks like to be a low scoring encounter – there have been just 15 goals in Roar matches this season, and only 20 in Victory games. That makes it harder to pick a winner here, and the last four matches between these sides have been a draw. As such, the draw looks great value.
Perth Glory vs Western Sydney Wanderers
Friday 6th January, 10.30pm (AEDT)
These are grim times to be a Perth supporter. The Glory sit three points adrift at the bottom of the table, having conceded twice the number of goals they have scored. Things don’t get any easier this weekend, as Perth host the high-flying Wanderers.
Western Sydney are second on the table, with a strong goal difference after a 4-0 demolition of Macarthur this weekend. Therefore, Perth should be easy pickings for the men in red and black. The bookies agree with me, so you’ll be getting short odds for the Wanderers to do the business on Friday night.

Sydney FC vs Wellington Phoenix
Saturday 7th January, 5.00pm (AEDT)
It’s been a tough season for Sydney FC so far - the premier club sits sixth on the table and has failed to put it together consistently on the pitch. Nevertheless, last week’s 2-0 win over Newcastle came at a great time and the Sky Blues will look to build on that performance with a win over Wellington.
The Phoenix have also been inconsistent to date, with just two wins from 10 matches. Scoring hasn’t been an issue for Wellington, but they have been particularly leaky in defence and that won’t cut the mustard against Sydney this weekend. For that reason, I’m tipping a home win for Sydney.

Central Coast Mariners vs Adelaide United
Saturday 7th January, 5.00pm (AEDT)
The Mariners continued their strong form with a win over Melbourne Victory last weekend to make it three wins from their past four games. They’ve been cooking on their home deck with three wins on the spin, and will fancy their chances in front of their fans against Adelaide who they’ve beaten at home in each of their last three meetings.
The Reds finally got back onto the winners list last weekend with a 2-0 victory against the bottom-of-the-table Glory. Unfortunately, they now hit the road where they’ve won only once in six attempts this season and travel to a ground where they don’t have any positive memories in recent years.
All signs lead to a win for the home side here, and I’m keen to back them in to get the job done at a decent price.

Melbourne City vs Western United
Saturday 7th January, 7.45pm (AEDT)
Melbourne City made very light work of the Phoenix last weekend to record their seventh win of the season from nine matches. Jamie Maclaren continued his sizzling form in front of goal with a brace to take his season tally up to 12 goals.
Western United extended their unbeaten streak to three matches with a draw against the Roar in Matchday 10. Still, they have a lot of work to do if they’re to have any chance of defending their title from a season ago.
Although United have improved their level of play in recent weeks, they still have a long way to go to compete with the current version of Melbourne City. On this occasion, City should be far too strong.

Macarthur FC vs Newcastle Jets
Sunday 8th January, 3.00pm (AEDT)
Macarthur reminded us all just how much can change in a week in the world of football. In Matchday 9 they dominated a quality Sydney FC outfit 3-0 away from home, but followed that effort up a week later with a demoralising 4-0 defeat against the Wanderers. Likewise, the Jets have traded wins and losses in their last two fixtures, and they too would be bitterly disappointed with their performance last start.
This matchup has been pure entertainment since Macarthur joined the competition a couple of seasons ago. There have been a combined 17 goals scored across five matches and the Over 2.5 Goals market has hit every single time. On current form, there’s no reason why that trend won’t continue when they meet for the sixth time this Sunday afternoon.
