Here we are at the last weekend of regular season matches. It feels like it has been a marathon season, but it has been very impressive that the competition has battle through COVID woes to get to this point. All the finals places have been locked up, so the main question of this weekend is who will win the minor premiership?
Check out our ‘Matchday 26’ preview and A-League betting tips below.
A-League Round 26 Betting Tips
Sydney FC vs Melbourne Victory
Saturday 7th May, 7.45pm (AEDT)
A disappointing season has seen Sydney miss out on a finals berth, while the Victory are one of three teams playing off for regular season honours.
The differential in motivation is stark here, however last week proved that teams do not always need the lure of season success to perform.
Incredibly, Sydney have won eight of their last nine fixtures against Melbourne Victory.
The last meeting between the two sides was a draw though, played back in January.
This is a hard one to pick and the bookies agree, so I will side with the draw as a value play.
Macarthur vs Western Sydney Wanderers
Sunday 8th May, 4.05pm (AEDT)
Macarthur were terribly disappointing last week as they blew a potential finals place, while their upcoming opponents the Wanderers have not been much better.
There is not much for either team to gain in this final round encounter, so looking for other performance indicators is key.
Macarthur have never lost to Western Sydney in four attempts and will be in front of home fans for this one.
As such, I’m picking the Bulls to bounce back here.
Macarthur FC to win
$2.60
Adelaide United vs Western United
Sunday 8th May, 6.20pm (AEDT)
What a clash this should be. Adelaide is flying high with four wins on the trot while Western United are still well in the hunt for the minor title, requiring a win and results to go their way.
In what could be a finals preview this should be a close encounter, especially considering Adelaide have conceded just two goals in their last four matches.
Indeed, in the last three matches between these two teams just one goal has been scored cumulatively.
Given that, I’m going to predict another draw to close out the season.
