After about 15 divorces and a bazillion episodes, the 2020 Married At First Sight season is finally coming to a close this Sunday night. A lot of people are probably thankful that we no longer have to hear about these wannabe insta-famous reality TV stars, but MAFS actually draws massive TV ratings and has been one of the most popular Australian TV series in recent years.
The 2020 season will wrap up this Sunday night with the finale featuring re-commitment ceremonies for each of the five remaining couples in the aptly-named “experiment”. The good thing is that with no sport on at the moment, we can bet on the outcome of the finale with novelty betting markets offered at most of the major Australian sportsbooks to help us get through a difficult sport-less weekend of punting.
With five couples remaining, most books have set a market on the number of couples who will stay together at the re-commitment ceremonies. Here’s the latest market at Pointsbet:
The hot favourite is for three couples to somehow survive the test of love at just $1.11, while all five to make it through is a massive long shot at $29!
Looking at the couples and it seems like the certainties are newcomers Liz & Seb, and KC & Drew, while the rocky romance of Stacey & Michael looks set to continue as well. Less certain are Mishel & Steve as well as Connie & Jonethen who have already been reported as moving on from their experience to find new loves.
Another interesting novelty market offered at BetEasy is on the TV ratings for the finale. The line has been set at 1.31 million viewers:
MAFS is one of the highest rating shows on television at the moment and has rarely dipped below the 1 million mark all season. The final dinner party episode saw a peak for the season at just over 1.2 million. With all of Australia sitting at home on their couch and looking for some trash TV to watch, there seems to be little other options to past the time. Last year’s season was full of drama with the finale reaching 1.968 million in metro and 2.611 million nationally. While this season has been a little more tame, the 1.31 line seems pretty low, so happy to suggest a wager on the overs.
