Following the exciting conclusion to the World Matchplay, the darts world now focuses on the PDC World Series of Darts with a triple-header down under across Australia and New Zealand over the coming weeks.
Starting this Friday night, the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre will host the first of those events with the 2019 Brisbane Darts Masters featuring superstars from around the globe joining the best of the locals for the two-day event.
2019 Brisbane Darts Masters Betting Tips
The PDC representatives are highlighted by world number one Michael van Gerwen. The Dutch darting phenomenon will be eager for a big showing after being an upset early casualty in the Matchplay. However his early exit also offered the opportunity for others to gain some wins and some confidence heading into this series.
Those contenders include world number two Rob Cross who overcame some amazing matches to win the Matchplay championship. Cross made an epic comeback in the semi-final to defeat Daryl Gurney who will also be present in Brisbane. Peter Wright is the other man in serious form with a string of recent success on the PDC tour including a win in the recent German Darts Masters.
Other PDC reps include Gary Anderson, James Wade, Raymond van Barneveld and local hero Simon Whitlock. The Wizard has shown glimpses of form but always saves his best for his home turf.
The local representatives include established pro Kyle Anderson, rising star Corey Cadby, winner of the inaugural BDO Australian Open Damon Heta, and Haupai Puha who impressed for New Zealand in this year’s World Cup.
The first day will see the PDC stars randomly drawn against the locals, before the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final on Saturday night.
In terms of betting, this really does feel like a massive bounce back spot for MVG. He would be stewing over his Matchplay performance and the fast-paced format means he just needs four victories to raise the trophy. The price of $2.50 at Sportsbet feels generous.
Peter Wright ($5.50) and Rob Cross ($6.50) are on the next lines of betting if you’re looking for some more value, and both are in sublime form. Gary Anderson ($8.00) is still battling to get back to his best after a lengthy layoff and Daryl Gurney ($13) is still quite inconsistent. If you’re looking for something at longer odds then James Wade appeals at $15 at Bet365. He has had a good 2019 with a strong Premier League effort and has the experience and game to rattle anyone in the world, even MVG.
It’s hard to get too excited about the chances of the locals with Corey Cadby ($26 at Bet365) arguably the most dangerous. Cadby is still building back up his game after only recently returning to the UK. That should no doubt put him in good shape to have a crack here, and the short format certainly suits him. Hopefully we see a few upsets from him!
