The 2017 Rugby Championships returns this weekend after a week off. We take a look at the value in the two games in our Rugby Championships Week 5 Preview and Betting Tips below.
South Africa vs Australia (Sunday 1.05am AEST)
The Australians head into their match against the Spingboks with the momentum. They earned a 45-20 win over Argentina in their last match to earn their first victory of the Rugby Championships. The Wallabies put together a strong performance across the park and they were lethal when given the opportunity to attack. It was one of their more positive performances in recent years and it is a solid building block heading into this contest. Coaches, players and fans will be hoping they can maintain it and find consistency.
Meanwhile the Springboks will be disheartened after their embarrassing 57-0 loss against the All Blacks in their last contest. They headed into the contest undefeated in the competition but their chances of winning the Rugby Championships were quickly evaporated. They still have a chance to challenge the All Blacks for the title if they win this weekend and even though they head into the contest as favourites, we are predicting the Aussies to earn the narrow victory away form home.
TIP: Australia at the margin (1-12) - $4.00 at Sportsbet
Argentina vs New Zealand (Sunday 9.40am AEST)
The All Blacks were clinical against the Springboks in their last game. They created opportunities from anywhere on the field and made no mistake in capitalising on them. It was a near perfect performance as they once again demonstrated why they are the best team in the world and why they have been for so long. They have attacking weapons in the backline and forward pack and it’s impossible to pick out a weakness. The 57-0 whitewash victory has put them into the box seat to claim the Rugby Championship trophy and we can’t see them slipping up from here.
Argentina has home field advantage in this one but we don’t believe they stand a chance of securing their first victory of the tournament. It’s definitely a case of by how much. The Pumas challenged New Zealand in their last meeting and it wasn’t until late in the game that New Zealand pulled away. We are predicting the All Blacks to put their foot down a lot earlier in this one as they look to make another statement before facing the Springboks for a second time.
TIP: New Zealand at the line (-21.5) - $1.90 at CrownBet
