A fantastic 12 game slate will take place in the NFL this Monday in Week 9 headlined by a monster divisional clash between the Eagles and Cowboys. Check out our betting previews for the key games below.
NFL Week 9 Monday Betting Tips
Miami Dolphins at Kansas City Chiefs
1.30am (AEDT)
Tough one for Australian fans with the 1.30am kickoff as this game will be played in Germany, however, it’s too good of a matchup to not preview this week as two of the AFC contenders square off. The Chiefs had a six game winning streak snapped by the Denver Broncos last week but still sit comfortably atop the AFC West division, leading by three games over their nearest rivals.
The Dolphins have been an offensive powerhouse this season, putting up a league best 33.9 points per game so far. Like the Chiefs, they are 6-2 on the season but find themselves in a much tighter race for their division, leading the Bills by just one game and the Jets by two. They were too good for the Patriots last week, winning 31-17 to cover the spread and go 6-2 ATS on the season.
The Chiefs start as slight 1.5 point favourites in Germany but I’m leaning the other way here. The reason I like the Dolphins in this spot is because they arrived in Germany two days before the Chiefs, who didn’t make it to Europe until late on Thursday. I think that extra time to acclimate and recover from the jetlag could pay dividends here. Back the Dolphins to win this one.
Betting Stats
- The under has hit in the last four straight Chiefs games, the longest streak of Patrick Mahomes career.
- The Dolphins are 12-5 against the spread when playing against AFC opponents since the start of last season.
- The Chiefs are 18-7 against the spread as a favourite of 1-3 points under Andy Reid.
Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles
7.25am (AEDT)
Easily the game of the day sees the Eagles taking on the Cowboys in a monster divisional clash. The Eagles are 7-1 on the season and bounced back from a shock loss to the Jets back in Week 6 with back to back wins over the Dolphins and Commanders. They are 4-2-2 against the spread on the season and have the third ranked offence in the league, putting up 33.9 points per game.
The Cowboys had an up and down start to the season but look to have things back on track now, having won their last two games over the Chargers and Rams by an average margin of 13 points. Their offence was humming in Week 8 against the Rams as they piled on 43 points on the back of a big game from WR CeeDee Lamb, who had 12 catches for 158 yds and two TDs.
The Eagles start as slight favorites at home but I’m opting for the overs instead here. Philly’s defence has not been fantastic this season, ranking in the bottom half of the league, while both of these teams rank in the top three in offence, putting up a combined 56.1 points per game.
Betting Stats
- The last five meetings between the Cowboys and Eagles have gone over the total.
- The Cowboys are 14-7 against the spread on the road across the last five seasons, the best in the NFL in that span.
Buffalo Bills at Cincinnati Bengals
11.20am (AEDT)
Another monster AFC matchup here as the Bengals host the Bills on Sunday night football. After a shaky start to the season, the Bengals have been rolling over the last month, winning four of their last five games to maintain a 4-3 record. They are unbelievably still last in a very competitive AFC North division, just two games behind the Ravens.
The Bills are 5-3 on the season and are coming off a solid win over the Buccaneers in Week 8. They have lost their last four games in a row against the spread but are 2-2 straight up in that period. The Bills have the No.3 ranked defence in the league, allowing just 17.0 points per game while also maintaining the No.4 ranked offence in the NFL, putting up 27.8 points per game.
Tough game to call here so I’m leaning towards the unders. I think this line is a touch high at 50.5. The unders are 9-6 in the 15 games involving one of these two teams this season and the Bengals defence is much improved over the last three weeks, allowing just 18 points per game in that span.
Betting Stats
- In the last 11 Bills road games, the under is 9-2, tied with Tampa Bay for the highest percentage during that time.
- The Bengals have covered the spread in three straight games.
- Josh Allen is 16-8-1 against the spread over the course of his career as an underdog.
