The Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes over 1200m highlights an eight-race card from Moonee Valley this Friday night. The weather in Melbourne has been a little mixed, but not a lot of rain, so we should see the track remain in the Good range with the rail in the true position. There are a couple of quality races on this card so let’s take a look at our Moonee Valley horse racing tips!
Moonee Valley Racing Tips – Friday February 24th
Race 1
Really liked the look of Cosmic Set winning on debut. Steps up to the 1500m but stormed home in that run to suggest the distance will suit. However going with BAFFERT as the top pick here. Finished third behind Farson and Rising Red who have proven to be well-above average. This looks easier and from barrier one, should kick up to be on speed and will be hard to beat.
TIP: Baffert
Race 2
Very open race over the 1000m here where a win from any horse would hardly be a shock. Athena Lass gave a good sight last start before being claimed late and another similar showing will put her right in the finish. But going with BELLA VINO who comes down from NSW with some strong form. Finished last preparation with a couple of solid victories in Kembla Grange and trialled well before resuming here. Top pick but no confidence here.
TIP: Bella Vino
Race 3
I am a fan of Sniper but needs to be ridden positively up on speed from barrier one to be a chance. STRIKE FORCE won in this grade last start and with a claim is weighted well to win again. Shouldn’t have any trouble getting up on speed and getting a good run. If that happens, will be hard to beat.
TIP: Strike Force
Race 4
ANATOLA looks one of the best bets on the card tonight. Has been a bit of a cat but broke through for a strong victory last start and no reason to suggest she won’t be able to do it again. Verstappen looks the danger resuming but can be a touch inconsistent, while cult hero Tigidig Tigidig will no doubt be in the finish (but just missing) as usual.
TIP: Anatola (Best Bet)
Race 5
Runsati will be hard to beat in this one. Has shown some excellent form in Sydney and has a great record and this track and distance. However going with a bit of value here with GALLANT HARMONY. The $10 on offer is a great price for a class horse who is proven at this level and typically races well fresh. Expect a strong showing.
TIP: Gallant Harmony E/W (Best Value)
Race 6
Jimivag had a tough run last start, working hard to cover ground before peaking too early. It wasn’t a bad run though, and he showed a toughness that may be hard to get past. Crediton was a winner last start but saved a lot of ground cutting the corner and this is a lot tougher. Going with the rock-hard fit ONCIDIUM RULER. Has been consistent without winning over the 2400m, but hasn’t had a whole lot of luck. Goes up in weight but should get the right run here to be right in the finish.
TIP: Oncidium Ruler
Race 7
A nice line up here for the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy and a number of chances. Improvement has won four of her five starts and after a nice freshen up, she should be ready to fire here. This is her toughest test to date, and I can’t get excited about the short price, so going to look elsewhere for some more value. Gridelin has won two this prep as well as a fourth behind some handy types in Sydney. May get caught out wide again in the run which may be her undoing. I like the price about the undefeated MAGNATTI who is flying. She should get a handy sit behind the speed and accelerate around them on the turn under the reigns of leading jock Craig Williams.
TIP: Magnatti
Race 8
Top weight Appalachian Annie looks well suited, but has drawn out wide so may need to burn some petrol to get across and lead here. Going with CERTAIN ELLE here for a hat-trick of recent victories. Led throughout last time but there will definitely be more pressure up front this time around. Expect her to kick through and make Appalachian Annie work which will prove the difference in the straight.
TIP: Certain Elle
