NRL Round 27 Preview & Betting Tips
Canterbury Bulldogs vs North Queensland Cowboys
Accor Stadium – Saturday 7th September – 5:30pm (AEST)
This shapes up to be an interesting game for the Doggies after getting beat last week by Manly. Early on, it looked like Canterbury were going to do as they pleased but they got the big reality check and were outplayed by the Sea Eagles. Keep in mind they didn't have Stephen Crichton, who has been an unbelievable leader this year. He is back this week, so it's a big in, but a big out is Matt Burton, who is under concussion protocols. This game will evolve around Toby Sexton and how he will steer this team around because he will have to carry the load himself given Drew Hutchinson is a solid player, but doesn't offer much in attack. I do think they'll bounce back but they'd want to, given a home final is at stake.
Not sure what to make of the Cowboys. They won last week against a reserve grade Melbourne Storm team, but it was high scoring, just a win, and they leaked points far too easily. That isn't going to work when taking on the Doggies, who are off a loss and are the best defensive side in the comp, so scoring won't be easy for the Cowboys and Jordan McLean has been rested for this game. His go forward in 2024 has been very good so the loss of him for this game is big. They do have a good record in Sydney though and do fire up for games where they are not expected to win.
Match Prediction
I think the Doggies needed a reality check and they got it last week against Manly. The Sea Eagles knocked down the front door and were dominant, especially up the middle. The Cowboys forward pack isn't as big so I think that, and the reality check, as well as the return of Crichton, should see the Doggies bounce back.

Bulldogs -2.5: As stated above, I do like the Doggies and I think they'll comfortably cover the start if they perform to the level I think they will.
Josh Addo-Carr 1+ Tries: Try scorer, one of the best in the business, and his form since returning from injury has been impressive, including a try assist for Reed Mahoney last week in the loss to Manly. Confident he scores at least one.
Kyle Feldt 1+ Tries: He is retiring at seasons end but is playing in super form and is scoring remarkable tries, including last week in his final regular season game in Townsville. He is who they will go to if they want to score points.
Combined Odds: $5.50 at Boombet
