BBL14 Hurricanes vs Renegades Betting Tips
Ninja Stadium, Tuesday 14th January, 7:30pm AEDT
Hobart Hurricanes
Predicted XI: Jake Doran, Charlie Wakim, Billy Stanlake, Nathan Ellis, Mitchell Owen, Chris Jordan, Tim David, Nikhil Chaudhary, Riley Meredith, Matthew Wade, Peter Hatzoglou
Five straight wins has the Hurricanes sitting second on the ladder with a finals berth already secured. The Hurricanes have a game in hand on the ladder leading Sixers, and are in the box seat to secure a home Qualifier Final if they can take care of business across their next three games.
A brutal knock from Tim David guided the Hurricanes to a comfortable six wicket win in their last outing against the Thunder. David smashed an unbeaten 68 from 38 deliveries as Hobart chased down the target of 165 inside of 17 overs. David is in hot form with back-to-back half centuries after making 62 not out against the Strikers on the 5th of January. David is averaging 55.66 this season and going at a strike rate of 185.55, as he is well and truly back to his best.
The Hurricanes bowling attack were outstanding in restricting the Thunder to 6/164, with Riley Meredith (2/30) and Billy Stanlake (1/25) leading the way. Hobart has spread the load with the ball this season, Riley Meredith (8 wickets), Chris Jordan (7 wickets), Billy Stanlake (6 wickets), Waqar Salamkheil (6 wickets) and Nathan Ellis (4 wickets) playing important roles. The Hurricanes have also been one of the most economical bowling attacks in the competition, with only Salamkheil conceding over 9 runs an over.
Melbourne Renegades
Predicted XI: Will Sutherland, Jacob Bethell, Josh Brown, Harry Dixon, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Marcus Harris, Fergus O'Neill, Xavier Crone, Tom Rogers, Tim Seifert, Adam Zampa
Yet again the Renegades threw away a winnable position, in their 42 run loss to the Stars on Sunday night. The Renegades had restricted the Stars to 7/75 at the 11 over mark, but some horrendous bowling at the back end of the innings saw the Stars reach 165. The Renegades never threatened with the bat en route to being bundled out for 123.
Will Sutherland (0.41), Tom Rogers (2/41) and Kane Richardson (2/40) all went the journey in a horrific last nine overs for the Renegades, conceding 90 runs. The Renegades now must win their final two games and hope other results go their way in order to make the finals.
As it has been for most of the tournament, Sunday night was a lean night with the bat for the Renegades. The top four failed once again with Josh Brown (4), Marcus Harris (1), Jake Fraser-McGurk (19) and Jacob Bethell (1). Not only did they fail to score runs, but Fraser-McGurk was the only batter out of the top four to go at a strike over 60, which put the Renegades in a massive hole.
Match Prediction
The Hurricanes have produced excellent well-rounded performances throughout their five game winning streak, which has them matching up incredibly well against a Renegades side that is relying far too heavily on a few players to drag them over the line. The Renegades top order is incredibly vulnerable, averaging just 12.5 runs for the first wicket this season, with only one game where their opening partnership has reached 30.
The Renegades have never beaten the Hurricanes twice in a season, and have struggled badly against the Hurricanes over the past six years. Since December 2019, the Hurricanes have won 9 out of their 12 matchups against the Renegades, and have won five straight games against the Renegades at Bellerive Oval. The consistent Canes will continue on their way and put the final nail in the coffin on the Renegades season.
