Geelong Racing Club will host midweek thoroughbred racing in Victoria this week with an eight-race card on offer for punters. It's a twilight meeting with the first race starting at 3:05pm (AEDT), with the track remaining a Good surface. The meeting is just a fair one with the first race being over 1500m and one of my three plays of the day features!
Geelong Racing Tips: Wednesday, January 15th 2025
Race 1: Wilsons Real Estate Handicap - 3:05pm (AEDT)
(4) Entrusting won when on Dry ground last time and the extra 100m looks ideal as the three-year-old colt goes through the grades. In both starts the Hayes-trained horse has settled off the speed so that will likely happen again in this race. The appointment of Blake Shinn is a positive and I can see this guy running over the top of them late.
(3) Rock The Bar has fitness on his side and will settle in front of the fav (Entrusting) early. He was okay at Caulfield Heath last start when 7th and this is easier. Has only placed in 1 of his last 5 starts but is in a leading stable (O’Brien).
(5) Charities almost got there last start at The Bool (3rd) but did win an easy race at Stawell before that. First go at the 1500m was an unplaced run on May 24.
(4) Entrusting WIN
$2.40 (3 Units)
Race 3: DMB Contracting Plate - 4:15pm (AEDT)
(7) Pop Award gets Blake Shinn on for the first time and that will assist after she ran well last prep without winning. She is first up here but has had two jumpouts leading into this for the Proctor stable. Was beaten a nose at Sale before her break and if she's fit enough, she should be winning.
(5) Grouse Mountain is the obvious danger because she has placed in 3 of her 4 starts to date. She also resumes after a Cranbourne barrier trial win and Damien Lane has gone off Pop Award in preference for this one.
(8) Tangoette has to be respected because she will go forward again and will be stronger after her last effort where she was 4th after being 2nd with 100m to go. She got a little tired there and another crack at the 1200m looks ideal.
(7) Pop Award WIN
$2.10 (3 Units)
Race 4: Roderick Insurance Brokers Plate - 4:50pm (AEDT)
(4) Leaving Las Vegas has always placed on Dry tracks and he stormed home for 2nd at Morphettville last start over 1200m so the extra 100m looks ideal. Before that run he also got far back at Murray Bridge and ran on for 2nd beaten a half a length. The Stokes team has had a good 12 months and Dan Stackhouse does ride plenty of winners for them. Barrier 8 seems okay considering he will settle in the second half of the field on the outside anyway.
(3) Dasher is fitter now after 2 unplaced runs and the O’Brien stable knows how to get them right. First up from a spell he was solid running 4th and he did pass a couple down the straight.
(1) Warby Ranges is an interesting runner from the Hawkes team who must do something now. He has only placed once in 9 starts and the stable won’t keep him much longer if he doesn’t perform. Fitter now though.
(4) Leaving Las Vegas WIN
$2.50 (3 Units)
