A-League Round 24 Preview & Betting Tips
Wellington Phoenix vs Melbourne Victory
Friday 12th April, 5pm (AEST)
Wellington put up a decent fight but couldn’t secure any points in their fixture against the Mariners last weekend, losing 2-1 on the road against the defending champions.
Still, the Phoenix have been in ripping form all season and have avoided back-to-back defeats for the entire campaign, which will give them plenty of confidence ahead of Friday night.
Melbourne Victory were able to extend their unbeaten run to four games with a 2-1 win in the Melbourne Derby against City last weekend.
Victory have been creating plenty of opportunities in attack over the past five games, scoring two goals on each occasion.
Victory’s form has certainly been trending in the right direction, but they still don’t deserve to be the hot favourites on the road against Phoenix. The home side deserves more respect and are certainly over the odds.

Adelaide United vs Macarthur FC
Friday 12th April, 7:45pm (AEST)
Adelaide United made it three wins on the spin when they put four past the Glory last weekend. They’ve now scored four goals in back-to-back outings.
The Reds are doing all they can to keep their season alive and enter this round as one of the form teams in the competition. However, a spot in the finals is still a long shot.
In contrast, Macarthur have struggled to find their best form for a couple of months now and come into Friday’s fixture having lost three of their last four games.
Macarthur have conceded 11 goals from their past four fixtures including 3+ in three of them, and in this sort of form it’s hard to see them upstaging the Reds on their home deck.

Western United vs Central Coast Mariners
Saturday 13th April, 3:30pm (AEST)
Western United marked their first ever A-League game at their new home ground in Tarneit with an entertaining 4-2 win against a quality team in Macarthur.
That win was their third from their past five games to improve on what has been a tough season overall. They remain in second last spot on the ladder with six wins for the year.
Elsewhere, the defending champs secured another win last weekend, this time taking down the Phoenix by two goals to one.
The Mariners have now won two in a row since losing to Sydney, and have also now won six of their past seven league fixtures.
Simply put, the Mariners are the class team in this matchup and should be coming away with another victory.

Brisbane Roar vs Newcastle Jets
Saturday 13th April, 5:30pm (AEST)
Brisbane Roar kept their season alive with a 2-1 upset win away against the Wanderers in Round 23. As a result, they’re now only five points outside the top six.
However, the Roar will need to defy recent history and secure another win this weekend. They haven’t been able to win back-to-back games since Rounds 4 & 5.
Similarly, the Newcastle Jets surprised a few with their 3-1 win against Sydney last weekend, although they’re unfortunately out of finals contention.
Scoring goals has been a tough as for the Jets in recent times. They’ve gone scoreless in four of their last seven league fixtures. The Roar have also struggled in attack, finding the back of the net just four times in their last four outings.
Due to recent trends, taking the unders in the total goals market looks to be the play here.

Sydney FC vs Western Sydney Wanderers
Saturday 13th April, 7:45pm (AEST)
Despite being the clear favourites last weekend, Sydney FC were unable to come away with anything from their match against the Jets which they lost 3-1.
The Sky Blues have now only tasted success once from their past five league fixtures and are in danger of coughing up their spot in the top six if they’re not careful.
Also losing last weekend despite being the favourites were the Wanderers. They went down to the Roar by 2-1 in a disappointing performance.
However, the Wanderers have won two of their last three games and are only two points behind Sydney on the ladder. They certainly look well over the odds at almost 5-1 here.

Melbourne City vs Perth Glory
Saturday 14th April, 3pm (AEST)
Melbourne City will be looking to bounce back from back-to-back losses on Sunday. These results have seen them slip to seventh on the ladder and four points outside the top six.
Meanwhile, Perth Glory’s winless run extended to seven games in Round 23 when they were thumped 4-2 by Adelaide United. They’ve picked up only three points during that span.
Neither of these clubs have been defending well over the past fortnight, with City conceding four goals in that span, while Glory have conceded five. In fact, the Glory have conceded 2+ goals in eight of their last 11 games.
All trends lead towards a high-scoring affair in this one, and it wouldn’t surprise to see City kick 3-4 all by themselves.
