A-League Round 23 Preview & Betting Tips
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Brisbane Roar
Friday 5th April, 7.45pm (AEDT)
The Wanderers put together arguably the worst three-game stretch in their existence not too long ago in early March, but have quickly recovered to reel off two impressive wins on the trot.
Their last start win over Macarthur was particularly impressive as they managed to find three second half goals to win 3-1 on the road.
Elsewhere, Brisbane Roar have found it tough over the past fortnight as they’ve managed just one goal and conceded three in a pair of losses.
The Roar’s season is quickly slipping away and they’ll need to turn their form around immediately to keep their finals chances alive.
Unfortunately, it’s incredibly difficult to see that happening on current form and the Wanderers to win on the home deck looks to be one of the better bets of the round.

Western United vs Macarthur FC
Saturday 6th April, 3.30pm (AEDT)
Western United’s four-game unbeaten run came to an end in emphatic fashion last weekend when they were destroyed 4-1 away against the Reds.
However, their focus quickly turns to Round 23 where they’ll get the opportunity to play their first ever official match at their new home ground in Tarneit.
Meanwhile, Macarthur have fallen out of form in recent weeks with two losses from their past three games. They were upset at home last start against the Wanderers in a game where they were the odds-on favourites.
Regardless, all eyes are on Western United who finally get to host a game in Tarneit after 4.5 years in the competition. They’ll go into this clash as the favourites and will be keen to defend their home turf at the first time of asking.

Central Coast Mariners vs Wellington Phoenix
Saturday 6th April, 5.30pm (AEDT)
The Mariners quickly recovered from their 2-0 loss against Sydney with a 2-1 win at home against Melbourne City last start in a Grand Final rematch.
The Mariners have been in impeccable form over the past 13 games, especially on the defensive end as they’ve kept eight clean sheets and conceded only eight goals in total.
The Phoenix have also defended well in recent weeks with four clean sheets from their past eight league fixtures, including last start where they defeated the Roar 1-0 at home.
However, the Phoenix have struggled a touch on the road recently and have failed to score in their past two such matches, and it doesn’t get any easier this weekend when they travel to take on the champs.
With all of that said, the Mariners are the deserving favourites and should be winning this on their home floor.

Melbourne Victory vs Melbourne City
Saturday 6th April, 7.45pm (AEDT)
The Melbourne Derby headlines Round 23 in the A-League, with Victory getting their chance to play host to City on this occasion.
The two meetings between these sides have been lacklustre to say the least. In fact, we’re still waiting to see the first goal in a Melbourne Derby this season as both prior meetings finished with a 0-0 scoreline.
Both clubs head into this clash in relatively strong form, with Victory winning two of their last three fixtures and City winning two of their past four.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the bookies have priced this clash evenly with Victory currently listed as only the slight favourites.
Regardless, it’s hard to argue with recent form and the unders in the total goals market looks to be the play here.

Newcastle Jets vs Sydney FC
Sunday 7th April, 3.00pm (AEDT)
The Newcastle Jets are struggling mightily and are in danger up picking up the wooden spoon if they can’t find some form in the immediate future.
The Jets are now winless in their past nine league fixtures and have failed to find the back of the net in four of those, including each of their last two.
In contrast, Sydney have picked up four wins from their past eight fixtures and have only suffered one defeat from their past 11.
The Sky Blues got the better of the defending champs last weekend (2-0), and in that sort of form they should be making light work of the Jets despite being the visiting team.

Perth Glory vs Adelaide United
Sunday 7th April, 5.00pm (AEDT)
Perth Glory have found it extremely difficult to secure wins over the past six weeks and have picked up only three league points during that span.
As a result, Glory have slipped to third last in the league standings and are only three points ahead of Western United in last.
Meanwhile, Adelaide United made it back-to-back league wins last weekend when they put four past Western United in a huge home win (4-1). Unfortunately, it looks as though they’ve found their form a little too late in the season to feature in the finals.
In saying that, the Reds will be keen to continue to build some momentum and finish off the year strongly. They should be too good for the current version of Perth Glory.
