The 2024 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday Match 7th 2024 but it's a unique start to the season this year. Friday night footy returns in 2024 with the Lions taking on the Blues at the Gabba! The Lions came heartbreakingly close to breaking their 20-year Premiership drought last season, while the Blues also made some huge strides towards featuring in the big dance. Both clubs will be expecting to secure another high finish this campaign, which will make for a juicy clash in Opening Round.
Saturday March 9th 2024
Another clash that will be a fascinating watch in Opening Round will take place on Saturday evening with the Suns playing hosts to the Tigers. 3x Premiership Coach Damien Hardwick will be trying to knock off the team he left a little over six months ago, while Adam Yze will be in charge of the Tigers for the first time. This should be a cracking way to get Saturday's double-header underway.
A rematch from last year's Preliminary Finals will close out Opening Round in 2024, with the Giants welcoming the Magpies to Western Sydney. The Giants are one of the favourites to go all the way and secure their maiden flag this season, while the Magpies will clearly be around the mark again after winning the Premiership only a little over five months ago. This is one you simply cannot miss!
