New Zealand Breakers vs Tasmania JackJumpers
Saturday 5:30pm AEDT, December 9th, Spark Arena
The New Zealand Breakers have failed to generate any momentum thus far in NBL24 and their playoffs chances are beginning to slip away as a result. They’re yet to secure wins in back-to-back games, which is certainly something no one would’ve predicted would be the case at this stage coming into the season. In contrast, the Tasmania JackJumpers have won consecutive games on three different occasions this season and enter Round 10 on a two-game win streak. They absolutely destroyed the 36ers last start, which ultimately led to the firing of CJ Bruton as the 36ers head coach. The JackJumpers have now won four of their last five games including two in a row on the road, so they certainly won’t be worried about playing in New Zealand. Simply put, I believe the JackJumpers deserve to be favourites in this matchup and am more than happy to side with them at the generous odds.

Adelaide 36ers vs Cairns Taipans
Saturday 8pm AEDT, December 9th, Adelaide Entertainment Centre
A game that wasn’t all that interesting a few days ago has become a whole lot more interesting now that the 36ers have parted ways with head coach CJ Bruton. His departure comes after they were annihilated by the JackJumpers to the tune of 36 points last start, which was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Current assistant coach Scott Ninnis will become the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, the Taipans have also been suffering plenty of defeats in recent weeks having lost six of their last eight games including four of their last five on the road. They’ve already played once in Round 10 and now face a tricky test against a 36ers team with a point to prove. With that in mind, I’ll be placing a small wager on the 36ers to get the job done.

Sydney Kings vs SE Melbourne Phoenix
Sunday 4pm AEDT, December 10th, Qudos Bank Arena
The Sydney Kings were fast starters in their opening game of Round 10 against the Wildcats but eventually had to grind out a three-point win. It was a necessary bounce-back performance after two losses in a row, although it still wasn’t entirely convincing. Likewise, the South East Melbourne Phoenix were last start winners which also broke a two-game losing streak. They defeated the Breakers (90-79) in their most recent game to help steady the ship. Looking ahead to this Sunday afternoon clash and it’s fair to say that neither team would be pleased with both their performances and results over recent weeks. However, the Phoenix have been given a +5.5 start by the bookies and that seems a little too generous in my opinion. The Kings have gone napping during games recently and as long as the Phoenix can capitalise on their periods of dominance, then they should be able to at least cover the spread here.
