Just three rounds remain in the 2023-24 A-League home and away season, with Matchday 25 next up on the schedule. There are only the five fixtures this weekend instead of the usual six, with the Central Coast vs Adelaide matchup being postponed. Nevertheless, we have you covered with our best bets for the weekend below!
A-League Round 25 Preview & Betting Tips
Newcastle Jets vs Wellington Phoenix
Friday 19th April, 7:45pm (AEST)
It took 24 rounds, but the Jets were finally able to secure consecutive wins with a 2-0 victory over the Roar last weekend.
Unfortunately, the turn in form has come a little too late for the Jets as they remain seven points outside the top six with only three fixtures remaining.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix continued their electric campaign with a 1-0 home win against Melbourne Victory last weekend in a great bounce back performance.
The Phoenix are now only goal difference behind the Mariners at the top of the table and are all but locked into a top two finish.
Although the Jets have been better over the past fortnight, the Phoenix are the superior outfit and the deserving favourites. I expect them to come away with the road victory.

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne City
Saturday 20th April, 3:30pm (AEST)
Losing form at the worst possible part of the season, the pressure is now well and truly on the Wanderers to perform this weekend.
The Wanderers were defeated by Sydney in the derby last weekend which made it five losses on their past six games. They’re now only one point ahead of seventh.
Speaking of seventh, Melbourne City currently occupy that spot and will have intentions of leapfrogging the Wanderers with a win on Saturday afternoon.
City were utterly dominant in their recent win against the Glory (8-0) and have now banged in 7+ goals in three different fixtures this season. They have the form to get the win in this one.

Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar
Saturday 20th April, 5:30pm (AEST)
Melbourne Victory had their four-game unbeaten run snapped in Round 24 with a loss against the Wellington Phoenix by one goal to nil.
Goals have been somewhat hard to come by for the Victory of late, as they’ve scored only 16 from their last 14 league fixtures. Still, they remain comfortably in the top six, eight points clear of seventh.
Elsewhere, Brisbane Roar suffered a bitterly disappointing home defeat against the Jets last weekend, putting a huge dint into their finals hopes.
Roar are now five points adrift of the top six with only three rounds to play, and will be relying on plenty of luck if they’re to make the finals.
Despite losing last week, Victory are clearly the form team in this fixture and I expect them to make relatively light work of the Roar at home.

Macarthur FC vs Sydney FC
Saturday 20th April, 7:45pm (AEST)
Macarthur went into their Round 24 fixture against Adelaide as the big underdogs but were able to cause a big upset with a 2-1 win.
This club just continues to defy the odds and are now only a couple of positive results away from locking in a finals berth.
Meanwhile, Sydney FC got the better of their archrivals in the Wanderers last weekend, avenging their previous defeat in the derby.
Sydney are also now likely just one win away from clinching a finals spot on the back of only two losses from their last 13 league fixtures.
The Bulls are seemingly always well over the odds and this game is no exception. They’re certainly a better than 4-1 chance to win and are worth having something on here.

Perth Glory vs Western United
Sunday 21st April, 5pm (AEST)
Perth Glory’s horror season became even worse last weekend when they were totally embarrassed by the then out-of-form Melbourne City, losing 8-0 on the road.
It was their fifth loss from their last seven league fixtures, and they’re also no winless from their last eight (0-3-5).
Western United’s recent games have been a blast to watch, with 4+ goals scored in five of their last six league fixtures.
They most recently drew 3-3 with the Reds in a catchup game that was postponed in Round 13.
There’s little at stake for both teams in this matchup and plenty of goals are seemingly on the cards in this one.
