The Hyundai A-League has been in the news for all the wrong reasons this week as they set a new record low for game attendance with just 990 people turning up to the clash between Western United and Newcastle on Monday night.
Regardless, there’s money to be made in the A-League and as always, we have you covered with a full preview and betting tips for the Week 19 action below.
A-League Round 19 Betting Tips
Melbourne City vs Newcastle Jets
Thursday 29th April, 7.05pm (AEST)
Melbourne City kick off Matchday 19 in the A-League at home against Newcastle on Thursday night. City secured a draw against Macarthur in their last game, which was enough to retain top spot on the A-League table and they can potentially pull even further ahead on Thursday night. Melbourne City have lost just one of their last 11 games and are far and away the form side of the competition at the moment.
Newcastle are on the opposite end of the spectrum at the moment. They are winless in their last 10 matches, having lost eight of them and they are coming off a disappointing 2-0 loss to Western United in the game where just 990 fans turned out to watch.
Interestingly, Newcastle have won their last two games against Melbourne City, but both of those games came at home. They have not beaten Melbourne City on the road since all the way back in 2015, a span lasting seven games. Back City to win this one comfortably.
Adelaide United vs Western United
Friday 30th April, 7.35pm (AEST)
Adelaide Untied will host Western United in the first of the Friday night double header in Round 19. Western United are in a tight race for a top six spot and their win over Newcastle on the weekend just bumped them up into contention. They have won four of their last six games but they will be on the road on Friday night, which does not bode to well for them.
Western United are the 2nd worst team away from home this season with just a 2-0-5 record as opposed to being the best team in the league at home. They face an Adelaide United outfit that sits just behind them on the home table with a 6-1-1 record under the fortress that is Coopers Stadium.
Both sides have been solid this season but the home and away records of either team are pretty telling ahead of this clash. They faced earlier this season in a game which ended in a 0-0 draw but I think this one goes in favour of Adelaide at home.
Perth Glory vs Macarthur
Friday 30th April, 9.40pm (AEST)
It’s been a tough season for Perth Glory so far this year and they were dealt another blow on the weekend as they went down 1-3 on the road against the Wellington Phoenix. They have now won just one of their last 10 games and have a pretty tough assignment on Friday night in the second game of the double header against 5th place Macarthur.
Macarthur are in a tight battle to retain a spot in the top six and they have drawn their last two games against Newcastle and Melbourne City, a decent bounce back from two straight losses at the start of the month.
These two teams have squared off just once before, earlier in the season when Macarthur claimed a solid 2-0 win at home. Macarthur start as outsiders on the road but they have form and the fact that they actually have something to play for on their side. I love the value of the road team here.
